Hi,

 

I just bought a 2-pack x20 (EU) hoping they would ship v4.0 hardware so I can use the new features in v4.0 firmware v1.1.0 (VPN, IoT network). However they shipped v3.0 hardware. Before I open the box and make it unable to return, has anyone tried applying firmware for v4 to v3 hardware? Or something similar with a firmware for a higher hardware version installed to lower hardware version ? Would the web page installer block it? Or would it brick the device? Or would "unknown weirdness" become more risky?

Hi, Deco X20 V3 could not use the V4 firmware and it could fail to upload to the web UI.

The VPN and IOT features follow the main Deco. If you add a Deco XE75 into the Mesh, you could still use VPN but for the IOT network, you could only get this Wi-Fi broadcast on the Deco XE75.

  @David-TP thanks for the response. I've been browsing in the different firmware versions for v3 and v4. The flash file format is different (JFFS2 for v3 and UBIFS for v4) and v4 references ARM64 while v3 does not. So it seems like v4 is significantly different to v3. I won't risk an attempt at forcing an upgrade of v3 hardware using v4 firmware and will return the units for a refund. Thanks for your help David.
