Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.7.1

So I've had this WiFi mesh for a while, and I realized that my wireless connection is faster than my Ethernet connection, so I was thinking of buying a new Ethernet cable. I'm not experienced with Ethernet cables, and I was thinking of buying a Cat 6 or 7 with an Rj45 connector. I just wanted to make sure it is fully compatible with the WiFi mesh and if there are recommendations on whether this is quite an overkill.

@Dienamic Hi, welcome to the community.

The Ethernet port on Deco M5 is a Gigabit Port so its maximum speed is up to 1000m/s. Cat5E cable would be enough and it would be great if you are using cat 6 or 7 cables.

Best regards.

That being said, if you still decide to get a new cable, a Cat 6 cable should be more than enough for most home networks. Cat 6 cables support Gigabit Ethernet speeds and are widely compatible with a variety of devices. Cat 7 cables offer higher bandwidth and better shielding, but they might be overkill for typical home networks unless you have specific requirements for extremely high-speed data transfer or a very noisy electromagnetic environment.

It appears that there may be compatibility issues with Ethernet connections affecting game performance. Users have reported experiencing difficulties, such as lag or connection drops, despite using Ethernet for online gaming. This suggests that there may be underlying issues with hardware, drivers, or network configurations that need to be addressed to ensure a seamless gaming experience over Ethernet. Troubleshooting steps, such as updating drivers and checking network settings, may be necessary to resolve these issues.
