Deco parental control website block not working
Good afternoon everyone
I am having a weird issue regarding parental controls on the Deco M5. It has been working flawlessly for the last 2 years.
I set YouTube and YouTube Kids as a blocked website on my kids ipads after they've had a couple of hours (so I can limit how much time they have on it) and I noticed yesterday that even after adding youtube and YouTube Kids to the blocked websites, they were able to still go on YouTube on the apps. Adult sites are still being blocked and blocking Internet access also still works.
I added my Samsung S23 Ultra to the same group and I can also still access YouTube and YouTube Kids, but only on the apps. If trying to access it in a browser, it doesn't allow me on it. However I added BBC to the block list, and it allows me on it on my phone and the Ipads.
However a GoogleTV which I've added to the same profile, can't access youtube or youtube kids on a browser or on the apps. But can still access BBC.
I have updated my M5's to the latest firmware (1.7.1).
Taken Youtube and YouTube Kids off the block list and then readded them.
Rebooted the M5's.
Turned the M5 off that we were all connected to and connected to the same one the GoogleTV is connected to.
Recreated the profiles and re-added the Ipads to them.
Taken "Private WiFi address" off in network settings.
Rebooted the Ipads.
All with the same results.
TLDR; Youtube and YouTube Kids are blocked when trying access on Safari / Chrome. But are accessable on the apps. BBC is accessable on Safari / Chrome even though its on the block list.
Anyone got any suggestions as I am now at a loss.

Can confirm this is affecting hardware version 1 and 3.2. All are on firmware 1.7.1.
Any progress/updates?

@Jdmar
Is there a known wordaround, what about reverting to version "Deco_M5_1.5.7_20210819"?

My kids are back at school now and YT has been removed from their ipads due to not being able to block it. So it's not much of an issue yet.
The last I heard was this;
"Thanks for your information, I think the reason why it behaves differently on mobile and PC is that maybe mobile YT has more sub-links set up to get to the site's resources, whereas PC doesn't have many sub-links.
We need to strip these sub-links completely by some technical means, I will contact you when I get the complete link."
However that was 2 weeks ago.
By the looks of things, it appears that filtering isn't working at all now. I can access Pornhub on my Childs iPad, even though they are in a "Filtered Content Child 0-7 years old" group. Adding pornhub to the blocked content list as well as being in the group isn't blocking it either. Luckily my kids are young so don't know how to use a web browser. So it looks like Parental filtering is completely not working now.
It is concerning that the "world's #1 provider of consumer WiFi networking devices" isn't prioritizing getting this sorted. Specially as parental controls are one of the main selling points to parents on 3rd party systems. I work in IT but didn't want to have to configure a software based firewall on my network to prevent my children accessing adult content.

Thank you for your time and patience.
As mentioned before, the issue is not about firmware and you guys could follow this post:
HomeCare Parental Control Suddenly Stopped Working
Later once the solution is ready, we will update this post as soon as possible.
Thanks again and best regards.
@Jdmar I think it was a coincidence with your case reported two weeks ago since your feedback happened to be the latest feedback about Parental Control.
The issue mentioned above only started at the beginning of this September. There was random feedback about Parental Control before but it was not like this time.
The engineers are definitely prioritizing dealing with this issue with HomeCare Trend Micro. The cooperation takes time.
Thank you very much and best regards.

I am pretty frustrated. None of the adult sites are blocked now on my kids' devices for Deco X20. What is going on?

Hi The same on my XE75pro. I bought it/configured it yesterday. parental control adult filter is on on my device for testing and simple abvious por... content is opening.
No how I can trust the advanced IPS feature, if this simple feature does not work. Now I hesitate to but Security+ to have IPS, because no trust and how I could test the IPS to see if it is working or not.
Anyways TP-link loosing the trust with simple feature issue. I have seen people were talking, that previous formwares were working. Unfortunately my first experience did not show that.
My firmware is
1.2.2 build 20230601 rel. 66771
Deco app v: 3.5.27

Hi, thanks for the feedback.
Since Deco XE75 Pro is not a HomeCare model, it uses HomeShield. so it is not the same as other feedback here.
As for the Content Filters under HomeShield, I think it is very likely some websites haven't been added to the Adult Content database.
Could you please refer to this link to submit APP feedback and add the websites you have tested?
It is also suggested to turn off IPV6 under the Deco APP>More>Internet Connection in case the access went through an IPV6 connection.
Thank you very much and best regards.

Thank You, I'll submit the logs, but I would not agree with this "very likely some websites haven't been added to the Adult Content database", as the very abvious one is failing.

Hi All:
I am saying goodbye to tp-link~~~~~~ not sure if my feedback is going to get cancelled, banned, or removed.....
What a bad timing!?!?! The none-working parental control issue happened right when my kids started school. I mean I would have thought it was working the whole time since I set it and forget it and I only checked & confirmed one time right when I first got my deco...
I still remember one of my kids showing off she could use her device to stream youtube. And, I used her device to open p o _ n h u b . c o m (without her knowing my method of testing), that's how I learned deco's parental controls not working. Of course, I tested all the devices I have at home; including iPhones, iPad, Macbook, Windows, chromebook, android, and all results showing parental control not working at all.
After few weeks of paitently waiting without any parental control resolution from tp-link, I just had to look elsewhere. Purchased an ASUS router and it has only been a day; it's parental control is rock solid & I am happy with it. No, I should say my wife is happy with "it", LOL. By the way, it's APP UI is pretty fancy & futuristic although all I really care is parental controls. Ok, i admit, FREE parental controls...
I must say that I have always recommeded tp-link's parental controls (home care) routers to whomever that asked me; from school, work, family, or even neighbors. People who are close to me always mock me saying i am tp-link's local sales rep.
Anyways, with prior good experience with tp-link, I did not mind purchasing another newer model tp-link router actually, with working parental controls.. But, I saw others talking about similiar none-working parental controls issue. I hestitated..... Then, I looked into "home shield routers"; it has montly paid pro parental controls with 30-day free trial. But, I am not sure if that means the none pro version is then the knocked-down version of what I get for free from "home care"? tp-link also has routers that don't come with "home care", nor "home shield", labeling "parental controls". How are they different? Looking for answers, but I got more quetions and very confused... I just want my deco's parental controls working like how it used to be..
Anyhow, ASUS router poped up from my google search and they don't have 3 or 4 tiers of parental controls options; just simplely free. I youtubed it more and decided to give it a try. This is my very first ASUS router; a simple router, not mesh system. I feel like I want to share more, but out of respect in the tp-link community, let me stop ASUS right here.
Lastly, thanks to all the tp-link support team members, live chat agents, and community contributors.
Wish all the best!! Maybe, I will become tp-link's customer again one day.
