I just want to make sure before I buy the Deco X20-4G as a backup cellular.

I have 3 Deco X60, can I add an additional Deco X20-4G (not near the ISP router) and it will "push internet" into the network when needed using the SIM card?

  @Koykoyk

Hi, Nice to see you again.

I see you also posted a similar post yesterday.

Here is some information for your reference:

1. Deco X20-4G could work as a satellite Deco for Deco X60, but its 3G/4G backup would be no longer available. In other words, the 3G/4G backup only works when Deco X20-4G is set as the main Deco.

2. Recently, a new round of feature requests has been under evaluation. The good news is that this feature has been approved and it is planned to support 3G/4G backup when the Deco-4G/5G mode is set as a satellite Deco unit.

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP Thanks a lot for your reply!

(sry for double threads, I thought the other one wasn't submitted)

I have two followup questions:

  1. How "bad" is it to have a X20 main deco and all the satellites are X60? (assuming everything is connected via ethernet)
  2. Is there another solution that I can do instead? maybe use a different product (non-deco?)

  @Koykoyk

Hi, Thanks for the message.

When Deco X20-4G works in WiFi router mode, it is quite like Deco X20 so the main differences from Deco X60 would be:

  • The maximum WiFi link speed, AX1800 over AX5400. the Wi-Fi 6 compatible devices usually could get a higher link speed from Deco X60 over 5GHz.
  • HomeCare and HomeShield: Deco X60_v2 uses Homecare while Deco X20-4G has been updated to HomeShield.
  • There is one more Ethernet port on Deco X20-4G

You could consider the Archer LTE router, such as the Archer MR500. It also supports wireless router mode with 3G/4G backup. You could use MR500 as the main DHCP router(with WiFi disabled) and set Deco X60 into Access Point mode to provide a Wi-Fi Mesh network.

How to set up Wireless Router mode and 3G/4G Backup on TP-Link LTE Gateway

What’s the difference between Access Point mode and Router mode on the Deco?

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP Thank you so much for your inputs!

So I will go for the X20-4G as main deco and when your feature of 4G backup ceullar support will be available I'll simply switch to that.

Can you please point me to the relevant feature request so I can track its progress (is it public? :))

  @Koykoyk

Hi, It hasn't been publicized yet. I only remembered it had been mentioned before.

If you do not mind, you could start a new thread here about this feature request and I will update its progress here later if further news has been provided.

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP Thanks for the information.

1. I have create a new thread as you suggested here

2. I saw a new feature here that I understand now that I won't be able to use if I move the main deco to a X20 (and I actually need it!)

3. If I go down the Archer MR500 route, do I have to use it as a router and the X60 as an access point? I think it means I'll lose the conviencncy that I have with Deco's inteface in mobile and web. What if I place the Archer MR500, set it as a router without WiFi and using the X60 as a WiFi router (same as today, only connect to Archer as input instead of the ISP router). It should work, right?

Thanks!

Lidan
