Model: Deco X50
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.3.1

I changed my old router to Deco X50 mesh. Deco main unit is connected to modem, one deco is connected to main unit with ethernet backhaul and other one is connected with wifi backhaul. The QNAP NAS is connected straight to main deco.

I can access the QNAP NAS through the qnap cloud connection, but not from local network. The NAS is in correct subnet 192.168.100.xxx and has same subnet mask 255.255.255.0 as other equipment in the network which are trying to connect it. The NAS doesn't answer ping or cannot be connected with browser or SMB.

I have tried to change the NAS to obtain the IP from DHCP or with static IP, but neither of them is working. Seems like the router is somehow blocking the traffic to the NAS from local network.

Help is needed.

Check IP address of Satellite Deco (hardwired or wireless) that you should see in its info page in Deco app. What is it?

  @Alexandre.

Other one is .249 and other one is .250 same subnet as main deco and nas.

Default Deco subnet is 192.168.68.*, I believe. Have you changed it to 192.168.100.*?

Do you see NAS in the list of devices connected to Main Deco, in Deco app?

  @Alexandre.

Yep changed it to 192.169.100.xxx

I can see the nas as connected in the deco app as it should. And also I can connect to the nas through the qnap cloud connection.

Obviously, you should be able to at least ping NAS if it is connected to the router (Main Deco) and you are pinging it from device on the same LAN.

Do you have any device with Ethernet port, such as desktop PC or laptop, that you can hardwire to one of Satellites and try pinging NAS from it?

  @Alexandre.

Yep. I can try that tomorrow.

One dum thing to test is to change the subnet back to 192.168.68.*. It should not do anything but you never know.

Thanks for the help so far.

Also, make sure NAS is set to get dynamic IP address, check its default gateway when it does - should be Main Deco. Same for PC you will hardwire and will be pinging from. Many issues with Deco mesh come from devices configured with static IP address, even if in correct subnet.

  @peltsi51

It is also suggested to check whether the QNAP NAS might be accidentally added to the "Device Isolation" list.

Best regards.

  @peltsi51 so what is the default IP settings of the X50?

It's been said that it uses 192.168.68.0 but the subnet mask has not been specified and I don't know what the default actually is on most of the Deco devices.

Both my xe75 and my be85 had a default of 192.168.68.0 with a subnet mask of 22 bits not 24 as is common on other routers.

So unless you took note of what the default originally was you won't be able to properly test putting it back.

I would make certain that the NAS is set to use DHCP for everything, put a DHCP reservation in if you need it to have a fixed address.

Factory reset the Deco and start over and see if it works.

If there are inconsistencies with the subnet mask there will be problems, crying

  @peltsi51

Strangely, but now it works.

1. I tested to connect with hardwired from main deco and satellite decos. Didn't work.

2. I remembered that the NAS has it's own firewall. I set the new subnet to allowed list. Didn't work.

      a. I left the NAS and router be this way for hours.

3. I disabled the firewall on NAS completely. Didn't work.

4. I changed the NAS connected to switch which is connected to main deco.

     a. I connected laptop to same switch with ethernet cable

     b. The ping went through to the NAS from laptop and the connection to the NAS could be established

     c. I changed the NAS firewall back on. And the connection still worked.

     d. I connected laptop to deco wlan mesh and the connection could now be made to NAS from wlan mesh also.

Most propably the problem was with the QNAP NAS firewall, which I forgot. But the strange this was that when I disabled the firewall the connection still didn't work, only after I connected straight with ethernet cable to same switch than the NAS.

Thank you for all your help.
