Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1,2,11

Hi

I have tried to follow steps I have found on internet to set a higher level of wireless security but in my app there are no way to change it from WPA/WPA2 (TKIP) to a more secure type.

Do I need to exchange all three DECO devices to newer hw version or another DECO version?

Have I set it up wrong to get in this position or why cant I change wireless security level?

I thought I could use my computer to logon the web-interface to this Deco but I guess that this version dont support that after trying.

Regards

Thomas

Hi, Thanks for the further update.

When I checked for your TP-Link email ID, I noticed one of the Deco M9 Plus has been updated to 1.6.2 already but the other(the main unit) is still 1.2.11.

Please try to temporarily power off the satellite M9 plus and leave the main unit alone;

Then run the upgrade tool again on the windows laptop to see whether it could detect the main Deco M9 plus and upload 1.6.2 bin file again.

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Deco M9 Plus firmware 1.2 is four years old. It is so old it does not have ability to be upgraded through Deco app. Instead of telling you it can't update M9 Plus firmware, Deco app says "all is OK." This is Deco app incorrect behavior.

Ability to update M9 Plus through Deco app comes with firmware 1.4.

To update M9 Plus firmware 1.2 see this document, follow Method 3: How to Update the Firmware of Deco

There are many useful features that come with current version of M9 Plus firmware, which is 1.6. To see list of features you are missing and will get after successful firmware update see this document: Understand the Differences Among Deco Firmware Platforms

Do the firmware update and you'll see the option to change security to WPA2, in Deco app.

I have just checked this and my app says that my system has the latest update 1.2 so since there are no other ways to update my DECO please advice how to do it in another fashon. Perhaps downloading to an USB-stick and att it to the router and from there somhow update the deive? Is that possible somhowe even if that alternative dont show up anywhere? /Thomas

Where can I find the update tool ? I have updated the softwhere in the app and now it says that I have the latest version and that is 1.2. Is what you say is the update tool the place under "More" and there under "System" and press update Deco? That is exactly what I have done. Where else can I update the Deco?

For the Deco M9 Plus V2, please refer to this link: https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/deco-m9-plus/v2/#Utility

I use Microsoft Edge on Windows to download that tool, it appears in Downloads folder as a ZIP file:

You will have to extract file from that ZIP file to run upgrade tool. There is just one file in that archive:

After upgrading the router the way you presented here I can no longer see the message that I have a too low security type on my wifi in my IPhone. So something has happend. And I can se the choise "Security" and under it exist now WPA2 beside WPA/WPA2 and "Nothing". Under "Update Deco" it says I have the latest firmware version and that is: 1.2.11 Build 20190926 !!!! The router is rebooted several times. The update don't show any error. Filename downloaded and installed is: M9Plus_2.0_en_1.6.2 Build 20230906 Rel. 80158_US_JP_EU_TW_CA_up.bin What has gone wrong? Why don'r I have the latest version? And I cant still use the computers web-interface to connect to the router. /Thomas

Hi

That did the trick! Now all three is up to date when it comes to the firmware version. And the wifi security holds WPA2.Much better!

Thanks very much for your support!!
