The feature connection preference is working not correct
Steps to reproduce:
1. Choose a prefer deco for a device
Expected:
- It should only connects to the prefer deco
Actual
- It auto picks a deco to connect which is not the prefer deco

May I know the model number of this client?
Have you also tried to turn off "Mesh Technology"?
Theoretically, the Deco will first recommend the preferred Mesh APP but the client will decide whether or not to accept the offer. In your case, I think the device refused the offer.
You could try to turn off the WLAN setting on the device and put the device next to the "preferred Deco", then turn the WLAN back on.

This is all good, but in that case Deco app wording for Connection Preference is misleading. It claims device will ONLY connect to selected Deco:

@Alexandre. I confirm is not working on M5 and X50 Outdoor. ONLY is a wrong translation as in reality is not working. It would be helpful in relation with IOTs as they are fixed. But is not working.

I used deco devices m5 version 3. Firmware Version: 1.7.3 Build 20230906 Rel. 59213
Steps:
1. Turn off mesh technology
2. Pick a prefer deco and wifi band. Wait a minute then it picked the target deco
3. For a long time (<1day), it's auto connected to the other deco.
Expect:
- It should keep connecting to the prefer deco
- If the prefer deco is turned off, it's should be offline then reconnect to the prefer deco when it is online again.
