Model: Archer AX23
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0

Hello everyone.

I am using Archer AX23 as a router, one RE200 for mesh (I have another on but currently off) and router from my Internet provider is UPC Connect Box in bridge mode.

On smartphone and MacBook my Internet speed is around 350-500 mbs. I pay for 500mbs so let's say it is acceptable. But my PS5 download speed is 100 mbs, while on PS4 it is maximum 50. PS5 uses 5ghz network, PS4 2,6ghz. I have no idea what else can I do in order to solve this.

PS5 is like 2-3 meters from archer, no walls between and of course no possibility to connect via ethernet permanently.

I tried unlocking ports, using manual DNS and no progress here. I also tried to give priorities to devices via Tether all but I didn't notice any advantage.

I would expect to have around 300mbs of download on both consoles (of course not in the same time).

Many thanks in advance for any advices what to do. If you need any more info like specific screenshots just tell me.

Hi,

If you pull the RE200 from its socket (i.e. switch it off) and then do the speed tests on the PlayStations again, do you still get 100 Mbps and 50 Mbps respectively?

Note that there is no way the PS4 could possibly reach 300 Mbps when connected to the 2.4 Ghz network. 150 Mbps would be a more reasonable expectation.

@Woozie

Thank you for advices.

Yeah, now PS5 downloads with 300 mbs speed. Much better, thank you. Not clear then why RE200 does not help but lowers the speed...

Regarding PS4 no improvement, speed between 20-40 mbs.

As for the PS5. Yes, range extenders reduce the attainable speed by design. And in your case this is especially pronounced because the RE200 is already slow to begin with. It is rated at only "433 Mbps at 5GHz", which usually translates in an "extender" speed of around one quarter (i.e. 110 Mbps).

If you wanted to maximize the performance of the extender, then you would need to buy one whose Wi-Fi specs at least match those of the Archer AX23. (AX23 is "AX1800", hence an "AX1800" extender would suit it)

As for the PS4. The 2.4 GHz band is known to be quite congested at most places. You could test if this may be improved by changing the channel on the Archer AX23, but often this will not help either.
Also make sure the 2.4 GHz radio of the AX23 is set to a channel width of "40 MHz" and not set to "Auto" or "20 MHz".
