I'm having a problem with my 2 Deco's S7 when assigning an IP to a device. It connects, but fails / gets stuck at Obtaining IP address. Sometimes after waiting couple of minutes it works, sometimes not at all.

 

My network set-up:

1st Deco working as a Main Router

2nd Deco repeating via Ethernet cable

 

Lots of different settings tried, but current ones are as follow:

Operation Mode: Wi-fi router

IPTV / VLAN / MAC Clone / DDNS / Fast Roaming / Beamforming: Disabled

Address reservation: with or without  still leads to the described problem.

 

The problem seems to be present since the last Firmware update. Can a fix be prepared, or anyone if possible to give advice on how to fix it? If needed, can I have some instructions for downgrade to previous stable version?

Hi, Thanks for the feedback.

May I know the model number of the device that failed to obtain an IP address from the Deco?

 

If we try to separate 2.4GHz from the 5GHz for example:

Disable 2.4GHz on the main Deco and enable the Guest network for 2.4GHz only.

Will it have the same issue when connecting to both 2.4GHz guest and the main 5GHz network?

 

Deco S7_V1_1.4.5 could be downgraded to 1.4.1 directly via web UI if needed:

Deco S7(EU)_V1_1.4.1 Build 20230324

Hello @David-TP,

 

The problem persists with different devices - 2 phones (1 of which e.g. Motorola Edge 30 ultra), 2 laptops (one Lenovo and another MSI), LG TV and a PS5. I have tried with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network enabled, and with only 5 GHz (the 2.4 one being disabled), neither of which working. I have not tested with a Guest Network. Should I and if yes, why? I need it to properly work with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.

 

Should I downgrade?

Hi, Thanks for the update.

The guest network can help us exclude interference among mobile clients.

I used to receive feedback that Apple devices ran out of the DHCP IP address pool and caused no new device to connect to the Wi-Fi network.

 

Since I don't think the 1.4.5 firmware upgrade would cause such an issue, a firmware downgrade could help verify it, and if a firmware downgrade fixed this issue, it also narrowed down the possible causes.
