Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.7.6 Build 20240305 Rel. 38320

Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing numerous issues with my network and have reached a point of frustration where I'm considering either a factory reset / starting fresh setup or switching brands altogether. I would appreciate any assistance in debugging these issues.

Current Setup:

  • ISP Router
  • 6x Deco M5 (3.0)
    • Firmware: 1.7.6 Build 20240305 Rel. 38320
  • 1x Deco X50-POE (1.0)
    • Firmware: 1.2.5 Build 20231122 Rel. 58711

One M5 is connected to the ISP router as the main device. Only two M5 units are connected wirelessly; the rest are using Ethernet.

Main Issues:

  1. Dead Spots:
    • Specifically in a scenario where one M5 is about 5 meters away.
  2. Frequent Wi-Fi Drops:
    • Some Wi-Fi clients drop connections constantly, one of which (Google Nest Hub) is only 3 meters away from the main Deco.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

  • Disabled fast roaming.
  • Disabled beamforming.
    • Both settings get reactivated automatically after turning off.

Other Details:

  • Guest + IoT Network: Set to 2.4 GHz.
  • Static Clients: Configured with manual source selection and appropriate band (e.g., air conditioning, smart speakers, Wi-Fi relays, etc) + roaming disabled
  • Manual Source Selection: For wirelessly connected Decos.
  • Reserved IP Addresses: Where possible.
  • Network Optimization: Performed periodically with no obvious improvement.
  • Scheduled Restart: Every night.

Logs:

  • CRITICAL: No entries.
  • ERROR: Mostly these entries:
    • "... daemon.err miniupnpd[15767]: chain MINIUPNPD not found"
  • WARNING: Many entries like:
    • "... daemon.err miniupnpd[15767]: sendto(udp_notify=11, [::2aee:52ff:fec1:8454]): Operation not permitted"

I can share more specific details if needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏

  @luisbraga

Hi, welcome to the community.

Can I have a picture of the network topology on the Deco APP, such as:

Do you have an ISP-provided router connected in front of the main Deco?

---If yes, I think you could try to set Deco into Access Point mode:How to set up Deco to work in Access Point mode

---Do you use any network switch to establish Ethernet Backhaul of Deco?

Can I also have the model numbers of the frequently disconnected devices? Are they mainly smart IOT devices?

---How often would they drop out of the Wi-Fi connection?

---Do you need to restart Deco or IOT devices to restore the Wi-Fi connection?

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Hi @David-TP !

Here's the setup:

I do have an ISP-provided router, which I've disabled WIFI by the way.
The main Deco connects to it and a TL-SG1008D switch between other Decos.

From what I understand, setting it in AP mode will make me lose many nice features, but I'm willing to try.

Regarding the frequently disconnected devices, I identified my mistake: it was misconfigured to use 5GHz while connecting to IoT network.
I've fixed it and have only seen the connection drop once since then, which quickly restored without intervention.

Now I'm focusing on signal strength because I don't believe thick walls are causing such an unstable connection.
In my bedroom, next to the "Quartos" Deco (no more than 5 meters away), the connection is terrible.
Also, most of the time, casting to all Google Nest hubs lags, and I have to run "Optimize Network." It seems to help.

I'm considering if my 24 ZigBee devices could be causing relevant interference.

I'll be looking forward to your advice.

Best

Here's my Zigbee2MQTT current config.

What would you recommend to choose here?
