Model: TL-WA855RE
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version:

2.5 years ago I set up and logged in and managed my TP-Link TL-WA855RE. I know the TP-Link device name (I named it Omicron) and PW I used to connect to wifi.

I now try to connect to another wifi router using tether.

But I do not remember the login password that I used 2 years ago to login and manage my TP-Link TL-WA855RE.

How do I recover, or reset, or start over and make it work or to set it up from scrach using tether (or else).

The router does not have a WPS button - a huge problem for me.

PS   my TP-Link TL-WA855RE  does not dispay hardware version. I put V4 above at random

this screen gives a mistake ...

Hi, welcome to the community.

You could try to hold reset pinhole for about 10s till you can see all the lights turn on once then off to run a factory reset first.

After the reset, the default password should be admin.

As for how to set up again with the new router/Wi-Fi, please refer to:

TP-Link Range Extender Setup (Range Extender Mode)

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP

Thank you very much

Yes, first I pushed and held reset pinhole for about 10s to a factory setup.

After the reset, I uninstalled tether, installed it again using a different email address and PW.

And the I used the tether app to do a brand new set up as per:

TP-Link Range Extender Setup (Range Extender Mode)

Thank you very much.

But the process must be shorter and simpler for IT dummies like myslef and it must give ... try this ... then try this ....if or when a user faces obstacles.

Setting up one TL-WA855R or TL-WA855RE extender should not take 3 days or 12 hours.

I'll try not to buy tp-link products next time.
