Model: Archer C20
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 0.9.1 4.17 v0001.0 Build 221028 Rel.34377n(5553)

Hello,

I recently upgraded my plan from 100mbps to 300mbps. I am aware that this model has only 10/100 mbps ports for LAN but is advertised to support 300mbps at 2.4GHz and 433mbps at 5GHz. Both wireless connections are giving 90 mbps. I have checked and verified the speed in the internet cable is 300mbps by directly connecting it to laptop. But when i connect the internet cable to router its at 90 mbps. Is the router not capable of speeds over 100mbps? If yes, then what is the advertised speed of 300mbps at 2.4GHz and 433mbps at 5GHz for? or Do I have to make some changes in the wireless configuration to get 300mbps?

Hi,

As you say, all the cable connections (WAN port and LAN ports) of the Archer C20 router are limited to 100 Mbps.

Since you are connecting your Internet to the Archer C20 by cable you cannot expect a higher Internet speed than what the cable connection is specified.

I see, I was hoping the WAN port could handle higher speeds. if all the ports are 10/100 then why give 300+ speed for wireless? maybe as a range extender?

Wireless speeds decrease substantially as the distance between router and client devices increases.

Like, if the C20 only had a maximum wireless speed of 100 Mbps, then one room away from the router the user would perhaps only get 50 Mbps and two rooms away maybe only 25 Mbps.
If the router is capable of higher wireless speeds to begin with, then the 100 Mbps Internet speed can be enjoyed wirelessly even at a greater distance away from the router.
