Model: Deco X50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.5.5

It would be fantastic to see port forwarding over VPN added to the Deco X50. The Deco’s VPN capabilities have advanced quite a lot recently, and with many users facing CGNAT restrictions from their ISPs (like Starlink), this feature would be incredibly valuable. Many VPN providers already offer port forwarding, so having the ability to configure a VPN directly on the Deco and forward ports through it would make the system far more benificial to more users wanting to run services from their homes who are unable to get a Public IP.

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

I'm still a little confused about why( or under which situations) that you wish to use port forwarding over VPN.

One key feature for the VPN connection is to replace the port forwarding since it is not safe to leave one port open all the time.

If the ISP uses CG-NAT service, I think the ISP gateway should allow port forwarding over VPN, instead of Deco since ISP gateway is the last NAT.

Best regards.

In my opinion, Port Forwarding over VPN would be extremely helpful for users behind CGNAT who need to access their home devices or services remotely. Many users, especially those on networks like Starlink or other ISPs using CGNAT, don’t have access to a public IP or any form of port forwarding through their ISP’s gateway, even in bridge mode. As a result, many of us have had to rely on unstable and unreliable services to forward ports.

It would be much more stable and convenient to have the Deco system handle this instead. While VPNs provide secure access, combining them with port forwarding over the VPN provider’s network would allow users to manage remote access to specific devices without compromising security, as the VPN would still offer encryption and protection. This feature would be particularly beneficial for users with limited ISP configurations, providing greater flexibility in managing their networks.

I believe adding this feature would significantly enhance the Deco’s versatility and make it a more robust solution for a growing number of users facing similar challenges. Thank you for considering this suggestion!
