Modifications and Improvement

1. Support Internet Backup via Hotspot Backup and Hybrid-Mesh Backup Mode.
2. Added DoH/DoT under Deco APP>More>Advanced.
3. Support 20MHz/40MHz automatic bandwidth selection to enhanced 2.4GHz WiFi performance.

Note: Some features are not supported in Access Point mode.

Deco Internet Backup Feature Guide

Internet Backup keeps the Deco Mesh system always online by switching to a backup network when the original ISP network is disconnected to ensure constant internet access. There are 3 backup modes available and only one mode can be enabled at a time.

How to enable Internet Backup

  • Open your Deco app, and go to More > Advanced >Internet Backup.
  • or Go to More > Internet Connection > Internet Backup.

Hotspot Backup Mode

Allow Deco to connect to a hotspot backup network wirelessly, like your mobile hotspot, or other secured wireless networks nearby.

How to enable Hotspot Backup Mode

1. Set a fixed WAN port

2. Select a nearby hotspot for network backup.

3. (Optional) Edit the Advanced Hotspot Backup settings

  • Add multiple wireless networks to the Hotspot List.

  • Set Speed Limit and Access Permission.

Both 4G/5G Backup and Hybrid Mesh Backup Modes require having an extra Deco 4G/5G model in the Mesh system, such as Deco X50-5G.

4G/5G Backup Mode

The Deco 4G/5G model is set as the main Deco and works in wireless router mode. Actually, this Internet Backup method is not dedicated to the Deco X50/X55_1.6.0 firmware and many Deco 4G/5G routers already support this feature.
For more details, please refer to How to set up 3G/4G or 4G/5G Backup on Deco router.

Hybrid Mesh Backup Mode

The Deco 4G/5G model is set as the satellite Deco and works in wireless router mode. It is very useful when Deco X50 is the main Deco and Deco X50-5G is added as the satellite unit. After the primary network is restored, Deco will automatically switch back to the ISP cable service.

How to enable Hybrid Mesh Backup Mode

1. Set a fixed WAN port under More > Advanced > WAN Port.
2. Configure 4G/5G Backup settings

  @David-TP

Thanks David for updating the community despite being in the late Q4 of 2024, usually I notice TP-Link only releases big major improvement during mid of the year. but this has changed my perception of it.

Will definitely give this version a try out as they finally implemented DoH and DoT.

This is a great news for Deco users. Will other Deco models especially the BE series (BE65, BE85 etc) receive DoT & DoH support too?

Tried that, it looks like the problem with Deco app and devices not showing where are connected ( deco app shows those devices as connected to other) remains with fing enabled or disabled. PPPoE disconnects more often (once per day ) but this problem maybe temporarily

  @David-TP Are this features coming to Deco x60 V3? Especially the 20 Mhz/40 Mhz channel width selection. Also how will this feature work if i have 3 deco x50 with 3 deco e4? Will e4s also shift 2.4 Ghz to 20 Mhz channel width?

  @David-TP

after 1 day upgrading in to this firmware problems arises .

Devices went to "other" connection status, PPPoE connections showed as connected but the internet was lagging , WiFi (5Ghz) was full but no connection to internet , tried ping 192.168.68.1 with timeouts . Restarting didn't do anything good.

Too many issues to stay on this one, had to revert back to 1.6.0 release 61500 (20240801).
back to normal.

  @David-TP I was pretty impressed with your release cycle seeing the firmware dated 2027, but I see that the actual file is 2024 laugh

  @AdiPatil

Hi, It is planned to roll out the similar firmware for other models. However, the ETA is unclear for a specific model.

"Also how will this feature work if i have 3 deco x50 with 3 deco e4? Will e4s also shift 2.4 Ghz to 20 Mhz channel width?"

- I think it should depend on the main Deco. Then the satellite Deco will follow the settings.

Thank you and best regards.
