Model: Deco P9
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.1 Build 20240716 Rel. 60900

I have 3 P9 units to try and get a strong Internet signal to my home office.

The first P9 unit is hardwired and sat next to my router. A second P9 unit is in our kitchen with the third P9 in the home office. Despite the fact the second and third P9 unit are only about 3 m apart as the crow flies. I often have to rely on the powerline connection to get any signal in the home office and even this drops out often.

I have therefore tried to set up an Ethernet cable directly from the router. This has an RJ45 connection to the router and is connected to a wall socket in the office. From this I then use an Ethernet cable to connect to the office P9 unit.

after doing this it still says it is connected via PLC and not the wired cable. I know the wired cable works because I have tested it directly on my laptop.

can someone help me to get it so that the Ethernet back haul works and so I can get stable WiFi in my home office.

thanks in advance,

Matt

For what you want to achieve, you need to switch Deco mesh to Access Point mode: Switching a Deco to Access Point (AP) Mode

It is possible that Ethernet cable you are using is not recognized by Deco, or ISP router is not compatible with Deco Ethernet backhaul.

You can test both:

1. Take Office Deco to the room with Main Deco and connect Office Deco to Main Deco with short Ethernet cable. Check what it does report in Deco app for Office Deco backhaul.

2. If Office Deco reported Ethernet backhaul, power it off, bring it to the ISP router, using same Ethernet cable as in first test connect it to router and power Office Deco on. Check what it does report in Deco app for backhaul now.
