Model: Archer C9
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.3.2 Build 20220510 rel.55014(4555)

Hi!

Problem: If powered up simultaneously router boots sooner than modem. Consequently it does not connect to internet and has to be re-booted (just the router!). If there is no on-site assistance, power outage completely blocks the restore of the internet connection.

Is there a way to set up a delay in the router boot prcedure in order to alow modem to set-up first? If not, what would be an alternative feasible solution to the problem?

Kind regards,

Tone42

There's no way to delay the router reboot time.

If the router has an auto-reboot schedule feature you can use it to schedule a reboot (not sure if C9 has this implemented).

In general if your C9 uses Dynamic IP internet connection it should obtain an IP address regardless modem startup time.

If your C9 uses PPPoE Internet connection make sure this setting is on Auto - it should obtain an IP address regardless modem startup time as well:

Thank you very much for your thorough response.

I checked my router and I see that it is already configured as it should, or better, as you are suggesting. The only difference between your scan and the corresponding page on my router are that IPs (5 data fields) contain real IPs, not zeros. But I guesss that does not count in the problem. Or am I wrong?

So, much to my regret, this does not solve my problem. The problem is fixed, happens all the time and is 100% reproducible. And yes - with the previous, the old router I experienced no such problem. I feel quite frustrated just like I happen to be the first user ever to be affected by the problem of possible total internet black out if am not at home. How do people arround the world avoid the problem?

As it seems there is nothing to do in the Archer router management itself - no boot delay possibility, no scheduled re-booting  (not 100% sure), no other possible router missconfiguration -   I'm thinking of putting a mini UPS on the modem, what at my opinion should solve at least the short power outages. Next idea would be to put a delay relay circuit on the router 12 V power line. Any comment?

Kind regards,

Archer C9 is an end-of-life device and if this is an issue on its FW level it's highly unlikely it would be fixed in the furure.

A delay relay circuit on the router 12 V power line should work for both cases of short and long power outages.

Another option If your modem is not in bridge mode is to connect to its Wi-Fi a sonoff device which can turn off/on the power of the router when needed.
