1. Who is your Internet Provider and what is the Internet LED status on the BE230 when there are issues with the internet connectivity on the wired or wireless devices? Please ensure you have a stable connection when connecting a PC directly to your ISP-provided modem, it's suggested to observe the connectivity for a day or two.

2. If you're getting a stable connection from your provider, please then follow this guide to check and modify the settings on the BE230 to confirm if the connectivity will become stable.

  @Kevin_Z This is not the fault of the internet provider, because when I watch TV the image freezes but on the phone and other devices it works fine. Another time it stops working on the phone and shows the message "WiFi network not connected to the internet but TV and other devices are connected". Another time on a computer connected by cable it shows the message "no internet connection". As I wrote before I get a message that the network drive has lost connection to the host, I can't get in from outside only inside the network. Sometimes it restores the connection itself after 5 minutes and sometimes after 5 hours while on other devices the internet works. When there is a problem on the phone when I disconnect the wifi and use mobile data, I can access the router from outside. When I gave this router away I connected another one and there was no problem. When I got a new one the same after 3 hours of connecting the same problems started happening. In the logs I have messages about LED diodes. I turned off the LED diodes and the messages still appear.

  @Kevin_Z I've got a new cable 2 days ago, and I bought PingPlotter so I can have better tracking. So far the connection has not dropped once over past 48 hours, although a day ago the Router -> Modem connection started dropping, and over the span of a few minutes it went from dropping some pings to dropping 100% of the traffic and then it just went back to normal as if nothing happened. So that was new and concerning, but seems separate from my original issue which has not popped up yet. I changed the Router IP on the Modem subnet to have it's IP reserved just in case though I have no idea if that could be related.

 

On the other hand I have observed some slightly concerning behaviors, specifically there's been moments where my pings to the Router have been hitting up to 400ms. As far as I understand this could just be unrelated to connection but rather PC side delay in pings as they're low priority traffic and something might have been using resources then, but am not sure. I've also noticed a similar interaction with PhpStorm / XDebug / Cron or something like that, where the ping latency would spike once a minute - which makes me hope this is a ping-based monitoring issue rather than actual networking issue.

 

Can't remember if I mentioned it but I have updated all the drivers and everything to make sure, before I got the new cable, but it didn't fix the issue - had LAN drop after everything was up to date.

 

Also so far I have not meddled with any settings to have fewer variables - they're all set to default - so I can still disable the Flow Control if the issue reappears. Also I'm wondering if I should set the Router to "Static IP" - it's set to Dynamic IP and the settings description suggests that it's ISP configuration, but because it's my modem that's ISP-facing, those configurations seem to just be from the Modem - so I'm the one controlling them and could technically set them as Static on the Router? (The Dynamic IP settings resolve DNS etc. to 192.168.0.1 etc. which is just the Modem IP on the Modem's subnet).

 

Because of the nature of the issue I can't confirm if it's gone, I can only keep observing and see if it reappears at some point.

 

Is there any theory as to why a cable might be working fine with my Modem but drop connection to the TP-Link router? So far it seems like it might have been the cables fault but it's confusing why it would not have had any issues when connected to the Modem.

Cable compatibility with devices can be affected by factors such as length, quality, technical specifications, and the version of the connection standard. Different network devices may require specific cable gauge sizes for optimal performance. While most network cards, hubs, and routers automatically determine connection speeds, they sometimes get it wrong, leading to connection drops. The Archer BE230 may be more sensitive to internet signal quality, which could explain the drops when using a non-qualified cable.

 

For the ping spike issue, please monitor it for a longer period. If the problem persists, kindly provide the following:

  1. What device are you using to test the ping? Please share the model of the adapter (if it's a computer) or the model of the phone and its operating system.

  2. Test with different devices to ensure the issue isn't specific to one device.

  3. Adjust the wireless settings on the BE230, such as the wireless channel, channel width, and Smart Connect settings, to see if any changes improve the situation.

  @Kevin_Z I turned off "Airtime Fairness" and so far it hasn't interrupted the device's internet access since then. So I bet it's this feature's fault.

  Unfortunately, disabling this function did not solve the problem. Now it does not cut off devices' access to the Internet several times a day, but every 3-4 days. I am really fed up with it.

If that's the case, please provide the following details so we can try to investigate further:

1. How is the BE230 connected to the internet? Are there any EasyMesh or mesh extenders? If not, please disable EasyMesh on its web interface.

2. Again, who is your ISP and what kind of Internet Connection Type do you choose on the BE230 to connect to the Internet?

3. When the internet works intermittently on different devices at random times, what are the LEDs status on the BE230, particularly the Internet LED?

thank you for your help, I came here with the same problem, and it turned out to be the cause of the cable
