Hi.

Has anyone used SMA extention cables to re-locate the WIFI antenna in another location.

Reason: I have three Archer AX1800 as Easymesh Satelittes currently and I also have a CPE210 access point outside under a gazebo but devices do not switch that easy between these two networks so my idea is to install another AX1800 inside a weather proof enclosure which will probably be metal and then using the enxtender cables, mount the antena external under the gazebo roof to give a good coverage signal across the garden.

Ideally TP-Link would produce a EasyMesh compatibe device that can be located oustide or an upgrade to the CPE210 to operate as an EasyMesh satelitte but these are no available and I have not heard of any plans to produce one.

AFAIK AX1800 is not with a detachable antennas and it would be difficult to use SMA extension cables in that case.

Here are two Deco units that support Easymesh already - X50 and X55.

It would be ideally if they can implement soon the same for X50-Outdoor unit which can be used out of the box.

Thanks for the info and you are correct, the AX1800 does not have detachable antenna so that scuppers my idea straight away!

Not sure I want to mix the EasyMesh/Deco equipment as from my basic reading its different apps etc which whilst the EasyMesh works, from previous experience with TP-Link, the documentation on functionality is terrible and it will be yet again another purchase that I'll lose money on having to return it (see post on VX230v router!).

It also looks like the Deco units do not support Ethernet Backhaul which is essential as the router is going to be placed 30m from the main house and I really do not want to get into Wireless backhaul as my experience with it has been poor.

Looking at the price of the Deco units, I might take the punt on just mounting another AX1800 inside a plastic box and mount it under the roof of the gazebo so its protected from the elements. I could then drill holes in the box allowing the antenna to stick out and seal around it.

It's not a pretty idea but I think it will be a better solution and I am confident I can keep it within the operating specs.

At the moment probably the best approach would be to use another AX1800 inside a plastic box.

You may even skip the box drilling for the antennas - plastic won't work as a Faraday cage.

I would use a box with removable cover during the hot summer days for heat dissipation.
