Hey all,

Have been suffering from an issue with my internet for the past few months where randomly the internet will drop out. I use things like Discord to talk to friends and when it happens I can still hear them but they cant hear me, and my ping goes to the moon. Sometimes after these drops, I'll have a moment of extreme packet loss then it goes back to normal. I've noticed when it happens, on the System Log it states;

2024-12-21 14:47:14 Led Controller INFO [527] Start to run WAN1_ON

2024-12-21 14:47:14 Led Controller INFO [527] Start to run WAN0_OFF

2024-12-21 14:47:14 Led Controller INFO [527] Start to run LAN_ON

2024-12-21 14:46:57 DHCPC INFO [8710] send select request with options

2024-12-21 14:46:57 DHCPC INFO [8710] 1/2 lease passed, enter renewing state

2024-12-21 14:46:29 Led Controller INFO [527] Start to run WAN1_OFF

2024-12-21 14:46:29 Led Controller INFO [527] Start to run WAN0_ON

2024-12-21 14:46:29 Led Controller INFO [527] Start to run LAN_ON
This is the only sign according to my router that something is wrong. Pings drop completely when testing to google. The example I pasted there is one of the longer ones, but they range anywhere from 10 seconds to nearly 2 minutes. I've toggled about every single option on the router on and off, rebooting does nothing to help. My options left are to buy a new modem or switch provider, but I want to see if there's anything i can do about this before i go to more expensive decisions. Any ideas?

Hi  @skally,

There are a few different cases related with unstable connection, including WAN connection unstable and wireless client devices unstable.
For WAN connection unstable (Router Internet LED turns red/orange occasionally):
    1) Connect a PC directly into your modem to verify if your ISP Internet is stable.
    2) Make sure the Ethernet cable between your modem and the Router is connected properly, replaced old cables with new ones.
    3) Change the DNS Server of the Router, login the web management interface of the Router, go to Advanced > Network > Internet > Advanced Settings, change the two DNS Servers into 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8How to Change the DNS servers on the wireless router and DSL modem router (New UI)?
    4) Go to Advanced > System > Firmware Update to upgrade the firmware of the Router. How to Upgrade the Firmware on the TP-Link Wi-Fi Routers?
For wireless client devices unstable:
    1) Make sure the Router is properly placed, it should be put in open area instead of inside a cabinet or shelf.
    2) Login the web management interface of the Router, go to Advanced > Wireless > Wireless Settings, change the wireless channel into another one.
    3) For 2.4GHz wireless client devices, adjust 2.4GHz channel width into 20MHz, for 5G wireless client devices, adjust 5GHz channel width into 80MHz or 40MHz to avoid interference.
