Hi everyone,

I need some guidance regarding my home network setup, particularly about the compatibility and optimization between my modem and mesh router system.

1. Current Setup:

Modem: Türk Telekom Zyxel DX3300-T1 VDSL2 Modem (Wi-Fi 6).

• Operating Mode: Modem/Router

• DHCP: Enabled

• UPnP: Enabled

• Firewall: Enabled (IPv4 and IPv6)

• IPv6: Enabled (Dynamic IP)

• NAT: Configured with a maximum NAT session of 20480.

MTU: 1492

Mesh System: TP-Link Deco X60 (AX5400, 2-pack)

• Operating Mode: Router (Dynamic IP)

• DHCP: Enabled

• IPv6: Enabled (Dynamic IP)

• MTU: 1500

• HomeShield and UPnP: Enabled

2. Internet Connection:

• ISP: Türk Telekom (VDSL)

• Connection Type: Dynamic IP (no static IP assigned by the ISP)

• Speed Test Results (from Deco App):

• Download: ~100 Mbps

• Upload: ~20 Mbps

3. Questions:

1. Bridge Mode Compatibility:

• If I switch the modem to bridge mode and use the Deco system in PPPoE mode, will this configuration be fully compatible with Türk Telekom’s infrastructure?

• My ISP uses a dynamic IP setup. Will there be any issues with PPPoE over dynamic IP?

2. General Stability and Performance:

• My primary goal is a “set and forget” system. I want the best speed, minimal disconnections, seamless roaming between Deco units, and optimal mesh performance without needing future adjustments. Would keeping the modem in router mode while using Deco as a secondary router with dynamic IP offer better stability than bridge mode and PPPoE?

3. AP Mode Preference:

• I do not wish to use Deco in AP mode, as I want full functionality of the Deco system, including parental controls, QoS, and its firewall capabilities. Would this preference impact the network’s overall performance with the modem in either router or bridge mode?

Hi, thanks for posting question here.

The internet connection type is decided by your ISP. If you want to switch ISP modem into bridge, you need to finish same configuration parameters on Deco app as on your modem. And your ISP provides Dynamic IP for IPv4 and IPv6, right?

If you want full functions from Deco network, router mode instead of AP should be the only choice. Whether modem router mode or bridge mode on your ISP modem should be ok for Deco network. If the Decos can provide enough wireless coverage, you may turn off wireless function on ISP modem.

@Marvin_S Thank you. So, I don’t modify the settings of the ISP-managed modem; I just turn off its Wi-Fi and leave it in regular mode, not bridge mode. On the Deco, I use the standard setup with Dynamic IP and 1500 MTU. Did I understand it correctly? is this your recommended setup?

Hi, there are several options. As you analyzed above, it is hard for me to tell which one is the best.

But the option you described is not bad.
