Hello,

 

I recently expanded my Deco mesh network and ran into a problem. My setup originally had 3 Deco M5 units, and I added 2 Deco E4 units to extend coverage to my garage and backyard. All units are connected via Ethernet, and they show up as online in the Deco app.

 

However, I can't connect any devices to the E4 units via Wi-Fi.  I’ve tried restarting everything, checking cables, ensuring firmware is up to date, and even resetting the E4s—but nothing helps.

 

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Take Deco E4 units back to the house, place near Main Deco and let them connect to Main Deco over WiFi (do not wire them).

 

If they do connect over WiFi, in Deco app check for each Satellite E4 what it shows in its info page, example:

 

 

You should see Signal as Strong and 2.4GHz/5GHz after "Connected to:" if everything is OK with these new Satellite Deco.

Hi, Can I have the current firmware/hardware version of your Deco E4?

If it is V1/V2, It is also suggested to test the 1.7.0 firmware here:

Hello, thank you for the reply.

The E4 are on 1.1.1 Build 20240104 Rel. 55043. I tried upgrading them to 1.7.0 from the Web UI but it says "Upgrade failed. Please select the latest version of firmware to upgrade."

 

Edit: Found out I actually have V4 hardware, even though the listing said V2. So that's probably why the filmware update failed.

Deco E4_V4 with firmware 1.1.2 should support "Connection Preference":

Are you able to manually set certain devices to connect to Deco E4?

Hello again and thanks for the reply. Yes, I've tried connecting a device to the E4s by the “Connection Preference” menu, but the device just gets disconnected for the network entirely and it’s unable to connect again, unless I forget the network or disconnect the E4 Deco entirely.

At the same time, can I have a detailed topology of your network layout? Would there be any network switch among Deco units? (If yes, can I have the model number?)
Did Deco work in "Wireless router" mode or "Access Point" mode?

For example: ISP modem router---Main M5--Network switch---satellite M5#1
                                                                                        \--------satellite M5#2
                                                                                        \--------satellite E4#1-------satellite E4#2

I am currently facing a similar issue where I am unable to connect to the Deco E4 via Wi-Fi. I have recently added the Deco E4 to my existing TP-Link Mesh network, which includes the Deco X50, X20, and M9 Plus models. In my setup, the Deco X20 serves as the main unit and is connected directly to the ISP router.

If you have previously encountered and resolved a similar issue, I would greatly appreciate any guidance or assistance you could offer.

Hello, 

 

I contacted TP-Link support and installed 1.1.1 Build 20241231 Rel. 40942 beta software on the E4 units and that seems to have resolved the issue.

Thank you for your prompt response — much appreciated. Unfortunately, the specified firmware version isn’t available in the EU region, and the latest available version here hasn’t resolved the issue. Thanks again.

I'm also in the EU region. You better contact Tp link support directly, and they might be able to do a remote session and install it for you. That's how I got mine working.
