Region : Australia

Model : TD-8616

Hardware Version : V7

Firmware Version : Firmware Version : 7.0.0 Build 130217 Rel.4218

ISP :

TP-LINK TD-8817 USB ADSL2+ Modem
FwVer:3.18.1.0_TC3087 HwVer:T14.F7_9.0

Trying in vain to allow WAN ping so my ISP can diagnose packet loss on my internet connection.

I have tried disabling combinations of Firewall and Management-ACL. SPI remains disabled
Creating a rule under enabled ACL to allow ICMP from 0.0.0.0 (all addresses) on WAN (and ALL)
even tried rule allowing all IP's, All applications, Both interfaces -can't get more open than that.

None of this allows the modem to respond when pinged from online tools.

Am I missing something, or is this a bug?

SBD, did you ever figure out how to do this?

You want to allow any device in LAN and WAN will be able to ping it, right?
On ACL page, choose Activated.
ACL Rule Index: 1
Active: Yes
Secure IP Address: 0.0.0.0-0.0.0.0
Application: Ping
Interface: Both
Save it.

I signed up for these forums just to thank you for this - thank you! I wouldn't have known to look here if not for your advice. It worked perfectly, with one gotcha: the device has a default ALLOW setup as rule 1 which permits LAN traffic. Replacing it with a ping rule will immediately lock you out of the modem with no way I'm aware of to get back in short of a factory reset (maybe USB would work, instead?). So, at least for my modem it's better to make this rule two.

Thanks again,
Eglin

Doing what you suggested enabled WAN ping and the remote testing software was able to start checking my connection again.

However, I could no longer access my modem.

The modem was working fine but when I tried logging in the browser just kept saying it couldn't connect.

In the end I had to fully re-set the modem and set it back up again and this time I added a Rule Index 2 with the amendments you suggested, this woks fine.

Index Active Secure IP Address Application Interface
1 Yes 0.0.0.0-0.0.0.0 ALL LAN
2 Yes 0.0.0.0-0.0.0.0 Ping Both
