Older modem faster than new??? TD-W8970 vs TD-W8920G

Region : Canada

Model : TD-W8970

Hardware Version : V3

Firmware Version : 0.6.0 2.12 v000c.0 Build 140613 Rel.31066n

ISP : Colba.net

So I had my old router TD-W8920G for a few years. It would experience problems. With different ISPs, different computers etc. Sometimes it would become super slow, sometimes the connection would say "limited connection". I had to turn it off/on very often, sometimes many times in a single day. Horrible experience using the internet like this. I decided to buy something good.

Upgraded to TD-W8970. It had good reviews and was a few years newer than my old modem/router. So at first it was working perfectly, speed was good, no issues. After a couple of months the internet became super slow. Just taking so much time loading websites...
I started troubleshooting. Tried different computers. Tried connecting directly with Ethernet wire instead of wireless. Tried changing/flushing DNS. Tried different network cards. Tried changing channels. I think I tried everything but nothing helped!

So I decided to try my old router again (TD-W8920G). After resetting it (reset button) it works well. Even better than the new one. Websites load very fast. Speedtest shows 40 ping, 6.63 mbps download and 0.85 upload. This is right after I reset the modem.
After a few minutes of doing nothing, I re-run the same test and it gives 122 ping, 5.5mbps download, 0.2 upload.
What's funny after resetting my old modem, it works faster than after resetting my new modem. My new modem gives me 50 ping, 6 mbps download and 0.7 download. I tried this test multiple times, and my old modem consistently gives me over 6.6-6.7mbps while my new modem cannot break above 5.97mbps. After a few minutes of resetting my new modem, speedtest gives ping 250, download 5mbps and upload 0.4

Why am I having these issues? Why is my old modem faster than my new one? Why do I have to reset my new modem to work well? I only have 1 PC and a printer connected to my network, sometimes a laptop. Why am I having these issues? Is this a low quality model? Should I look to other brands like Cisco?

Reset the new one, TD-W8970 to factory defaults and reconfigure it. If it works normal, on its status page, check and write down upstream and downstream, or just save it as a screenshot. Compare it with information obtained from TD-W8920G.
When the problem occurs with TD-W8970 again, login its web interface and save another screeshot of the same page.

For TD-W8970:
Network---DSL Settings---DSL Modulation Type
Change the type to ADSL2+ and Save. Wait for 2 minutes and check upstream and downstream again.

Upstream and downstream has nothing to do with wireless connection...But the actual wireless connection speed is slower than wired connection normally.

New router down 7020, up 944, old router up 1025, down 7788.

This is mechanism in firmware to increase the stability of the connection and eliminate errors CRC
