Model: Deco XE75
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.4.3

The Deco worked fine until I decided to install the 1 year free trial of Security+ or Homeshield, whatever it is branded.

BBC news and other links stopped working. I didn't notice any other issues. Errors included connection closed and certificate errors.

I connect via Vodafone UK broadband, and also via their phone network so I was able to isolate it to the Deco by switching off WiFi on my phone and the BBC sites became accessible.

I disabled the web protection, but it still didn't work. I then disabled all 3 systems, web protection, IoT and intrusion prevention. Access was then restored.

Previously I had an Asus router, and their system worked fine (was also free).

The web protection is useless to me if it causes web sites to reject my connection by its intrusive design.

Pretty much exactly the same problem here. Currently working with tp-link support to sort it. The temporary solution I did was disable TLS 1.3 hybridized Kyber support in Chrome.

Hi, welcome to the community.

Could you please refer to this link to submit the Deco APP log and also include the inaccessible BBC sites in the email so that I can invite the senior engineer to have a further check?

  @IanMSpencer

Hi Ian

I installed the WPA4220T kit after having issues with my BT Broadband Hub 2 router not reaching areas of the house.

I've also had issues accessing the BBC website and other websites for no apparent reason, but after switching to Sky Broadband I've realised the issue was with the WPA4220T, which I'd initially set up with the same SSID name as my main broadband to get a mesh effect connection.

Can you advise how you turned off the three elements that let you connect to these sites without issue?

Kind regards

  @Bewildered52 under the security tab I switched off bottom to top, it seemed that disabling web protection only left the problem in place, but also it stopped being able to disable intrusion protection. So, switch off IoT protection, then Intrusion protection, then Web Protection then access should work.

My understanding is that the BBC detect the routing through a third party site and reject the connection.

  @IanMSpencer

Mine's exactly the same. I haven't managed to make it work at all yet. Temporarily reverted one of my old x68 units to be master & now bbc can be accessed ok. Must be issue with XE75. Going to take the XE75 kit back for refund as pretty crap if you can't access BBC in UK!

  @StephenWhite

Hi, welcome to the community.

Deco X68_V1 also uses the HomeShield service kit, just like Deco XE75_V1. There might be something else.

I noticed you also submitted a support ticket, and I'd like to follow up on your case via email.

Please refer to the email for more suggestions later.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Re:Web protection blocks BBC sites
Sunday

  @IanMSpencer I had exactly the same issue. I had a Brume2 acting as a firewall and ended up resetting everything that I'd spent months setting up. That didn't help so after ruling out DNS and all kinds of other things I started blaming Starlink geolocation. After sending them all kinds of information I was still not confident it was Starlink as some BBC sites worked on iPhone, but not on iPlayer on the iPhone. However iPlayer worked on TVs. BBC websites didn't work at all on laptops - just got connection refused but tracert showed ICMP was fine.

So I tried ChatGPT and it eventually suggested Homeshield. I thought it unlikely that a mainstream function like this would block the BBC, but after disabling IoT, IP and Web Protection, it started working!!!

What's even stranger is that re-enabling them did not break the BBC again. At least not yet. I can only imagine there was some corrupt filtering rule or something like that?

 Correction ... you have to leave all three off. Once you've loaded content it then works, but no new content will load with any of them enabled. What a strange issue. The number of hours I have spent working on this!
