Hi, Deco users,
It has come to our attention that randomly, users reported when satellite Deco units are hard-wired via Ethernet cables, no devices can connect to the Guest Network from the satellites and report an error "Couldn't get IP address". However, the same device connects well to the Guest Network of the main Deco, and after disconnecting the Ethernet cable from the satellite unit, the device can also connect to the satellite Guest network.

If you have experienced this anomaly, please feel free to leave a comment, including the model number and firmware version of your Deco.

Currently, some users have confirmed that restarting the ISP modem again after enabling the Guest Network resolves the reported issue.

In the meantime, the following firmware versions are also provided as a temporary workaround if restarting the modem didn't help:

Deco M4_V1/V2 1.7.0_Official and above
Deco X20-DSL_V1 1.0.4_build_20220114_Beta
Deco X50-4G_V1 1.1.0_build_20230821_Beta
Deco X50-5G_V1 1.3.0_Official and above
Deco E4_V1/V2 1.7.0_Official and above
Deco M5 1.9.0_Build_20250911_Beta
Deco M9 Plus 1.9.1_Build 20250909_Beta
Deco BE11000/BE63_V2 1.1.0_Official and above

  @David-TP

Hello

I have the same issue. Workarounds don't work.
Latest firmware is installed:

Deco XE75(EU)_V1_1.4.3 Build 20240926

Best Regards, Andreas

  @Andi3971

Hi, Thanks for the feedback.

Could you please send an email to support.forum@tp-link.com with some screenshots of your current network topology?

I guess you have already tested the same mobile clients can properly connect to the Guest WiFi of the main Deco XE75?

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Deco M5 with firmware 1.8.5 seems to also be affected by this.

I have rebooted the ISP modem, as suggested in the workaround, and the clients were able to connect to the Guest network.

  @Scuba_DiverHi, thanks for your notification. I also saw your reply in post# 837696.

I have the senior engineer updated and will keep monitoring if there is going to be more similar feedback.

Thank you very much.

  @David-TP FYI I was having this problem with a BE85 mesh running current firmware. When going back through the settings I noticed at the bottom of the guest network screen a reminder to set the vlan if using a switch.

I did not have to do this with my previous fritz mesh (connected to the same managed switch) so had overlooked it.

As soon as I created a new vlan in the switch and tagged all the BE85 ports the guest network started to get IP addresses.

Hope this helps others that might have overlooked this.

  @GAD70

Excellent! Thank you for sharing with uslaugh

Can I have the model number of your switch? If it is a smart managed switch, setting a VLAN on the switch is needed:

How to extend guest network when there is a switch between Decos

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

I suddenly got the same problem, "Guest network" not giving out an IP address (android device said something about connection error, after waiting say 10-20s in the "getting IP address state).

* All my IoT devices got same problem (could not connect)

* Main deco worked fine.

* No managed switches (well I had one, but I replaced with unmanaged to debug).

* Rebooted decos numerous times.

* Enabled and disabled guest network numerous times.

* I have the latest FW (1.9.1 Build 20250612).

* I have a mix of Deco M9 v2.0 and v2.2

Then rebooting the ISP router solved everything.

I seems to have this problem using Deco BE65. The workaround do not work. I'm using the latest official version 1.2.0 Build 20250718 Release 43949. I switched from X60 that worked fine with the same setup two days ago. Now with the BE65 is seems like they are not able to communicate over the guest VLAN. Is there any fix for the BE65? Thanks in advance!
