TD-W8960N WLAN disappeared after flash update 1.4.0 Build 111108 Rel.40398n

TD-W8960N WLAN disappeared after flash update 1.4.0 Build 111108 Rel.40398n ( TD-W8960N v3 0x00000002)
previously this was a brilliant modem, never had a complaint, connects fast and stays connected. even though i have purchased newer modems, when they fail i go back to this one.
the reason i needed a newer modem was i needed VOIP (bought vg3631 for this) but the vg3631 has connection issues.
however when i updated the w8960n the wlan disappeared altogether, there is no wlan options in the menu and no visible ssid. the w8960n still connects to the internet and the LAN works well.
can i backdate the flash to a working version? is there a new flash that will fix my problem and bring back the wlan?
