Model : TD-W8901G

Hardware Version : Not Clear

Firmware Version :

ISP : Telia

Hello,

I could not find the Archer D2 in the Model Number drop-down in any section of the forum, I'll provide a link to the product below.

Yesterday we installed the Archer D2, running the setup from the disk provided failed and returned an error message saying something like "Could not assign IP-adress". I proceeded to set the device up using the web interface. I had assigned a static IP to the computer while configuring the device and after I was completed I did not get any internet access despite beeing in the correct IP-range. When I configured the PC to use dynamic IP instead I would get Internet access but unable to access the LAN.

I did some troubleshooting and found that indeed the Archer does not assign IP-adresses even with DHCP enabled and configured. When I did an 'ipconfig /all' in cmd it says that the IP of the DHCP-server is the same as our public IP. I tried updating the firmware which did nothing.

As a temporary solution I set the printer's IP to be in the same range as the PC's assigned adresses so that it could be used for printing.

This is not the first time I've run into this problem, the first time was when installing a TP-link TD-W8901G. Because it's such a cheap device we simply had it replaced with another ADSL router of a different brand.

Does anyone know what could be causing this behaviour?

Here is the device: http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?model=Archer+D2

Normally, your PC should obtain IP address from D2 automatically.
When the PC uses dynamic IP, what's the IP address obtained? How about the printer?
D2 is working as a modem router or router only?

The IP-adress obtained from DHCP was 78.XXX.XX.XX (don't remember all of it). The D2 is working as a router only but I had the same problem when using it as a modem router. I never tried setting the printer to use a dynamic IP, however I did set another PC to use dynamic IP-adress and both computers are able to access the Internet just fine.

Could the IP-adresses on the machines be assigned from my ISP since the 'ipconfig /all' reports that the DHCP servers IP is our public IP?

Is there a modem or cable connection to LAN4/WAN port of D2?
D2 has been configured in wireless router mode?
If so, PCs can only plugged into LAN1, LAN2 and LAN2 ports to access internet and IP address should be 192.168.1.*.
Check the physical connection first. The IP address 78....is not assigned by D2 and it is public indeed.

Yes there is a cable connection from the modem to the WAN port. I'm going to have to double check but I'm pretty sure it is in wirelsss router mode.

Ok so I've installed another D2 at a different location and had the same problem with this one. Cable connections would get a public IP, however if connected wireless I would be given the correct IP from DHCP.

Umm, can you access internet wirelessly with the correct IP?
Since D2 is working as a router, what's the IP/Mask obtained on Status page of D2? Have you done MAC Clone?

Yes, there are no problems accessing Internet on a wireless connection.

I'm currently unable to access the device so I can't check the status page I'm afraid. And no, what I did was to plug it in, ran quick setup from web interface, checked DHCP settings and that's it.

I did bring with me a copy/paste of the relevant IP-config. I'll post it below.

It is important to check WAN IP address on its web interface. How did you check or change DHCP settings on its web interface? It is not a necessary step.

The WAN IP on the status page would be 213.66.***.***. There is a section where you can configure DHCP, what i did was to go in there and see that the correct IP-range etc is (pre)configured properly which in both cases were true.

If you have confirmed what I said, submit a ticket here. Maybe support team can remotely access to the web interface and help you to look into it.
