Flashed W8961ND with W8961N firmware and cannot flash back
Region : Others
Model : TD-W8961ND
Hardware Version : V3
Firmware Version :
ISP :
Hello all. I accidentally flashed the TD-W8961N_V1_141023 firmware on my TD-W8961ND WiFi modem router. It was not rejected for some reason, but now I can't flash back to the firmware which was originally present on my router (and is in fact the altest one :) ) TD-W8961ND_V3_140305 .
I've tried in Internet Explorer 11 on W7 and on Firefox 37 and I get the message that the file was rejected by the router or something similar. I've tried telneting to it and disabling the modelcheck and it didn't help (but I didn't turn off the router after disabling it via telnet so I don't know if I skipped a necessary step).
Or the problem is perhaps that my original firmware has a lower version number and it's not allowed to downgrade? Is there a way to get around this? Maybe by editing the firmware bin file and changing the version number?
I've also read about how older TP-Link routers had a TFTP recovery mode so I installed Wireshark and listened on the LAN communication after holding the reset or WPS switches for a while, but I noticed no broadcast by the router on the ARP interface asking for the TFTP server IP location.
Is there anything I can do? Like, flash it to an older W8961N firmware and then try to flash my W8961ND?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have to note that the basic functionality is still there so I presume the firmwares are not too different, but still. My DSL connection is bugged as it is so I'd like to take the potential router issues out of the picture before I focus on other parts.
