Known working devices / network interfaces
I run the following for among other things a streaming VR setup
PC
├─ Intel i9-14900 96GB
├─ Windows 11
├─ NVIDIA RTX 4090
└─ TP-Link TX401 (10GBase-T, AQC107)
↔ 3m Cat7
TP-Link BE800 (Router/Switch 1)
↔ 15m Cat7 (10GBase-T)
TP-Link BE800 (Router/Switch 2 - Internet gateway)
↔ Wi-Fi 7 (6GHz)
Pico 4 Ultra (VR headset)
In the constant OCD drive to tweak and get a little less latency i'd like to try replacing the copper connections and PC NIC with Fibre .
ChatGPT says this about the BE800
The Problem with TP-Link BE800 + SFP+
-
SFP+ auto-negotiation is not standardized the same way as RJ45 (NBASE-T), so:
-
Modules and cables must match exactly in spec and compatibility.
-
The BE800's SFP+ ports may not support 5G/10G Base-R properly.
-
-
TP-Link firmware often lacks advanced diagnostics or DDM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) for SFP+, making troubleshooting a black box.
-
Many users report that BE800 SFP+ ports fall back to 1G/2.5G only unless using TP-Link’s own modules, which are hard to source or undocumented.
I purchased an SFP+ cable from a local shopping site and as described above it would never go faster that 1G.
I recognize that vendor lawyers hate the term supported because they think we all will sue. However i'd be interested to know if anyone has any vendors or specifications of any SFP devices that can be generally purchased on the open market and are known to work with the BE800 SFP+ ports at 10Gbe. Regardless of what you think of my quest I think this list would useful to others who may want to look at SFP in the future.
I need an SFP+ PCIE NIC and two fibre connections.
