Hi,
I’ve been using the Archer Air R5 (AX3000 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 6 Air Router) and hoped to set it up with Ethernet Backhaul through EasyMesh.

I came across a TP-Link employee's response on 2024-01-02 stating:

“Hi, Archer Air R5 supports EasyMesh via WiFi backhaul only, it doesn't support Ethernet Backhaul yet.”

It's now 2025-05-08, and there doesn’t seem to be any firmware update adding Ethernet Backhaul support for the R5.
This feature would make a big difference for stable, whole-home mesh setups.

Is there any ETA for when Ethernet Backhaul support will be added to the Archer Air R5?
Alternatively, is this a hardware limitation or something that will be resolved in a future firmware update?

Thanks!

Hi@Scholar,

Thank you for contacting our community.

Sorry that we don't get advanced notice of when a feature update will be available for easymesh Ethernet backhaul of Archer Air R5.

For Archer Air R5, we recommend using it in wireless combination with Archer Air E5.

For your feature request, you can vote in this thread. And I will merge your post to that thread.

@Joseph-TP Hi Joseph.... I also purchased 3 R5 units in hope of creating a perfect mesh network at my home... And at the time of purchase I didn't knew that the R5 didn't support the ethernet backhaul... Today the entire time I was doing cable management for ethernet backhaul... Then when the time of set-up came... it was a pure chaos... I almost reset my routers almost 10 times and even if it doesn't support the ethernet backhaul... the wireless backhaul still isn't optimised lets say A1 A3 & A3 are the 3 archer R5 and A1 is my main router and each router is placed at different positions respectively to their order so let's say if A2 and A3 are my satelite routers... the connection between A1 and A2 is excellent but when it comes to A3 instead of getting higher speeds from A2... it communicates to A1 which reduces the speed to almost half... I hope the R5 gets the Ethernet backhaul support ASAP it would be a life saver... And make my purchase worth... Also are there any updates or news when the R5 might get ethernet backhaul update ?
