My smartphone and TV both see my 5GHz WiFi signal - but NOT my new TX20U adapter...any ideas?
Typed a good explanation but this forum keeps saying my post contains illegal links, so please check first comment here for my full breakdown, but basically my new TX20U Nano will not see my 5GHz signal from my hotspot. Checked all intel drivers and tp link drivers. please see below for details, many thanks. !!

Hi,
Most of TP-Link's USB Wi-Fi adapters designated for the "EU" region (like the TX20U Nano(EU)) do not support the 5 GHz channels from 149 to 165. However, these happen to be the channels smartphones commonly use to broadcast their 5 GHz Wi-Fi hotspot.
A workaround would be to configure your smartphone's hotspot to use the 2.4 GHz band instead.

many thanks for your reply, thats insane! I'm very suprised this is not mentioned more, seems a bit misleading to market it as something i can use at 5GHz when in fact i totally cant.
so what usb devices do accpet the signal? i wanted to move away from 2.4 for more speed

TP-Link's "EU"-labelled USB Wi-Fi adapters that are built on Wi-Fi chips from Realtek all have that restriction.
More recently TP-Link has introduced some newer models that use Wi-Fi chips from MediaTek (for example Archer TXE50UH). However, since these are still quite new there isn't so much information available about them yet. Unfortunately, nobody who has already got one of those has come to this forum to report whether those models also hide channels 149 to 165.

I will check that model out. I still can't belive my 3 year old TV will connect but a new dedicated usb adapter from tp-link won't..i know you explained why but i still can't wrap my head around it being an issue in the year 2025.
So with your explaination, does that infer there are also no other companies that have micro sized adpaters that will find this 149/165 channel, or are there options?

I don't know how the other major brands handle this. I would not rule out that they are doing similar things so ensure their USB Wi-Fi adapters are 100% legal in each market they sell them.
Anyway, if you can't get a "US" version of a big-brand USB Wi-Fi adapter where you live, then your might want to resort to the likes of AliExpress and order a cheap small-brand or unbranded USB Wi-Fi adapter directly from China. Those can work with all Wi-Fi channels.
