Model: Tapo D235
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I’m using a Tapo D235 video doorbell connected to a 24V DC 2A power adapter via the rear screw terminals. However, the doorbell continues to drain its battery at a rate of approximately 1% every 30 minutes, even though it is receiving constant power. Mainly because my grandparents use a tablet that is showing the video output 24/7.

Upon further investigation, I learned that the D235 requires 8–24V AC via the screw terminals, not DC. Could you please confirm whether DC power via the terminals is officially supported? If not, can you recommend a compatible plug-in (wall socket) 24V AC transformer with sufficient power (at least 24VA) that is suitable for use in the Netherlands? Since I can only find ones with 24V AC with 500mA, which seem insufficient.

AC and DC inputs are both supported for Tapo D235. The adapter you used meets the doorbell's requirements. For this issue, please make sure the Always-On mode is enabled on your doorbell.

For detailed product specs, refer to its Datasheet.  Tapo D235(EU)_V1_Datasheet
