Model: Deco X10-4G
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.1 Build 20241015 Rel. 76741

I bought an X10-4G in order to implement "hybrid mesh backup" as described here:

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/4251/

Unfortunately it does not work as planned.  If I add the X10 to me Deco netweork as a satellite Deco (which is what I need, because the wired connection is about as far away as can be from the location the X10 needs to be in to get a good 4G signal), then go to "Advanced", there is no "Internet backup" option.

I suspect this is becasue my main Dco is an M4R.  I suspect that this doesn't support internet backup.

The FAQ helpfully point out that  "Features may vary from different Deco models." - I'm thinking that the relevant feature is missing from my M4R.

So I think that what I need to do is to replace the M4R with another Deco which does support internet backup.  But, before I spend more money on this project, I want to be sure that it will work.

So, my question is, which Deco models will support "hybrid mesh backup" using my X10-4G?

I can't find an answer to this anywhere on the TP-Link site.  The nearest is a post that says that X50/X55 support hybrid backup.  Can amyone confirm that these will work with my X10 ?  If so I will invest in one.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Update:

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

It has been confirmed by the engineer that:

For Internet Backup>Hybrid Mesh Backup, the satellite Deco 5G unit also needs to support the "Internet Backup" feature, and currently, Deco X50-5G_V1/V1.2 with firmware 1.2.x  is the only Deco 5G router that has added the "Internet Backup" function.

In other words, currently, "Deco X50_V1_1.6.x+ Deco X50-5G_V1_1.2.1" is the only combination for "Hybrid Mesh Backup".

Thanks a lot and best regards.

Hi, welcome to the community.

You can refer to this link to have more details:

Deco Internet Backup Feature Guide

For now, in order to use "Hybrid Mesh Backup Mode", there are two requirements:

  •  The main Deco has to be Deco X50/X55_V1 as it is the only version that supports Hybrid Mesh Backup Mode.
  • A Deco_4G/5G model is added as a satellite unit, such as Deco X10-4G/Deco X50-5G.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Thanks this is really helpful.

So if I buy a Deco X50 VDSL V1 router unit, then it will provide the hybrid backup option I want via the satellite X10-4G.  That is good to know.

I must say that  the idea that it will only work with V1 seems highly unintuitive.  The FAQ documentation doesn't make it clear (at least not to me) that a particular version of a particular Deco is required for hybrid backup to be available.  Maybe if the FAQs had a "requirements" section, it would make life easier for users.

Hi, Actually, "Deco X50/X55_V1" is different from Deco X50-DSL_V1. Deco X50-DSL doesn't support "Hybrid mesh backup" either.  Specifically, only Deco X50/X55_V1, not V1.2 or V1.3/V3, has been updated to provide this feature. There might be plans for other models, but currently only V1 of Deco X50/X55 has been updated to support "Hybrid mesh backup".

Best regards.

Arghhh! This is rapidly becoming a complete farce. I bought an X50-V1 on the strength of the previous post, but now it turns out that only certain sorts of X-50 V1 support hybrid backup. My X50_V1 DSL appararently isn't an X50_V1 as far as hybrid backup is concerned (but it says X50_V1 on the box, confusing? Some might say so). So, if I were to get an X50_V1 non-DSL model and connected that to my X50_V1 DSL/10-1 4G, could I then use the DSL usit to connect to the internet and get hybrid backup via the other units? I suspect the answer is no, because the wrong X-50 is the main deco.

Having now bought a Deco X50 V1,  and made it the main deco in my mesh with a satellite X10-4G I still dont't have "hybrid backuo mode".  There is an "Intener Backup" section under "Advanced", but only hotspot backup is shown.

  @Bob_J487

Thank you for the feedback.

Can I have a screenshot that there is no "HybridMesh Backup" on the Deco APP?

Please also refer to this link to help me submit the Deco APP log:How to submit Deco APP log

I might need to forward it to the engineer to see if there is something we missed.

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Here are some more details.

When you go to Advanced > Internet backup and select "Enable" it takes you straight to the "Searching for hotspots screen", which, in trun takes you to the "select hotspot sceen", but nowhere is "hybrid backup" via the satellite 4G Deco offered as an alternative.

Select hotspot

Hi, thank you very much for the pictures.

Can you also help me submit the Deco APP log here: How to submit the Deco APP log

I think to use the "Hybrid Mesh Backup" feature, the firmware of Deco X10-4G might also need to be updated to support "Internet Backup>Hybrid Mesh Backup". But as it hasn't been mentioned elsewhere, I'll follow up on your case via email and consult the senior engineer for further confirmation.

Please check whether you have received my email.

Best regards.
