Dear TP-Link Support,
[Forum ID: 817424]
Thank you for your response. I’ve identified the issue—I was using my main Proton account credentials (email and password) instead of the dedicated username and password provided by Proton for WireGuard/OpenVPN. After correcting this, the connection is now working as expected.
I appreciate your support and the troubleshooting resources you shared.
Best regards,

Hi @dedsecuser,
Thank you for contacting our community.
Is the NordVPN your VPN provider? What country/region is the client located in? Please make sure you have completed the configuration correctly (you can check whether the username and password are entered correctly)
Please confirm whether the VPN server is working properly. You can set up VPN clients with the same configuration information on different devices to access the VPN server for testing.
If other clients can access the VPN server normally, please help collect the system logs and backups files of the router:
How to view and save System Log of TP-Link wireless router
How to create and restore from a backup file on your TP-Link Router
Then email the logs and backups files support.forum@tp-link.com, attaching [Forum ID 817424] and details, and we will have a dedicated person to assist in analysis and follow-up.

@Joseph-TP I emailed the address, but I am still waiting for the reply. I appreciate your assistance. I will copy the email here as well for your input. Unfortunately, I cannot attach the relevant files here; however, for your question about the vpn, I have validated and made sure the vpn credentials are correct. Me being the client located in South Africa. Im not too familiar with your suggestion to try the vpn file on different devices, as I only have this indoor router that uses a vpn function.
Dear TP-Link Support Team,
I am experiencing persistent issues with my VPN connection on my TP-Link router. Despite correctly entering my Proton VPN credentials and testing multiple OpenVPN and WireGuard configuration files, the VPN remains stuck on "connecting."
As requested, I have:
Verified that my VPN username/password are correct.
Tested multiple server configurations (OpenVPN/WireGuard) without success.
I am not familiar with testing the VPN on other devices, but I’ve attached the following files for your review:
System Logs from my router
Backup Configuration File
Details:
Router Model: Archer AX72
VPN Provider: Proton VPN
Country/Region: south africa
Please let me know if further information is needed. I appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue.
