Add VLAN setting on Guest and IoT network for a better compatibility withany smart home setup<
Hello,
Currently tp-link choices oblige users to buy a secondary Deco system when managing IoT and Guest requires some segregation. This consequence of the design has a huge financial impact over the whole system installation at home were low or mid cost is premium. the solution was found 20 to 30 years ago and is now really affordable. To enhance the Deco system compatibility with common smart home designs, could it be possible to add the following parameters in guest network and iot network ?
- a selector (radio button"between ¨Deco basic setup" and "Deco vlan setup¨
- an input box , grayed when ¨deco basic setup "is selected and allowing a selection from 1 to 4095 when "deco vlan setup" is selected. I believe you could add some limitation over available numbers if your firmware already uses some vlans internally.
- Perhaps, you may limit the availability of such a feature over guest and iot networks to the AP-mode of the Deco system. It seems that Deco users applying router mode are less inclined to use this because not using a complex home setup.
- An option to be able to connect some of the external RJ45s to to the IoT network or to the basic deco network to could also be perfect in order to use a deco unit fully as IoT relay even for local wired devices without wiring around like Air conditioning controls, heaters, boilers, light hubs, etc. (No need of it for the guest network by definition).
This way the master deco should be able to output any data pertaining to guest or IoT network to the proper vlan. Normal Deco network will not be allowed to use VLAN to push data out. This way it will keep intact your mantra about simple network as it is now : a basic user will always be able to reset guest or iot setup to basic state, while home power users will be able to use a state of the art smart home equipped with Deco and using a basic mix of VLAN trunk and gen port to connect master Deco (hybrid setup) . Such users are usually able to tune a Deco system with mittens and a opaque bag over the head (just applying the ¨ÿou are now on your own" mantra you could also add in your user manual) while basic users will always be able to reset their setup to tp-link basic mode if they select the wrong mode on guest or IOT network.
I'ḿ an heavy user of Decos which are perfect for home use especially in AP-mode : it even drives some diy devices perfectly. Except that the current design leaves power users including kids (...) on the side of the road in todayś smart homes (at least a secured one).
Regards,
Eric.
