I've had this persistent issue since installation.
Whenever the app is closed, the animated lighting effects immedietly freeze.

The effects only play and animate with the app open, regardless of the fact that I have the Tapo Hub which I hoped would fix this issue.

 

If this is a software limitation, its extremely infuriating and I hope a soft/firmware update will fix this, as having the phone and app open is not practical if I want the effects in the background.

 

If this is an error, I have no idea what causes it.

  • Please make sure your Tapo app is updated. You may try to delete and reinstall the app. 
  • Try to control the light strip on another phone or tablet, check if there is the same issue. 

 

Could you clarify whether the LED strip's lighting effect stays on the current color when the app is exited, or does it switch to a specific color? Also, I’d like to confirm what you mean by closing the app. Are you referring to completely shutting it down from the background, or does the issue occur when you temporarily exit the app to return to the home screen or switch to another app?

Do you use the Sync to Sound feature? This feature requires continuous communication between the light strip and the app, hence the app cannot be closed while using this feature. It will works if the Tapo app is still running in the background.

Just normal effects/animations, and seeing as those don’t need the microphone, I was hoping the hub could take care of it… If it can’t, it makes the hub a little redundant… It managed most sensors fine, but the button experiences a lot of the same issue, that I need to open the app and refresh it, regardless of it being a hub feature.
