Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.7.8

My place has very thick walls.

Setup is a total of 11 decos:

- 8 nodes of M5 (3-4 years old)

- 3 nodes of S4. (1-2 years old)

- only 4 of the decos are wired (the main and 3 others. I am unable to connect wires to the other decos due to structural limitations)

I added the S4s around 1-2 years ago because the M5s range just wasn't as good as when it was new and couldn't connect to the other decos anymore. I found the additional s4 nodes solved this back then.

I had no issues until last month, first the guest wifi stopped working. No one could connect to the guest wifi even if all the Decos were updated. I disabled and set up the guest wifi again but no change.

Internet has been slow and gets dropped but would connect again. I turned off the main router and connected it again and there was no change.

Yesterday, I decided to hard reset all the decos. They were generally still working before I did the hard reset but, I can't seem to get 5 of them to work. I tried to hard reset them several times but not all are connecting to the other decos anymore even if they are stil in the same location that used to work. I tried moving it to a new location but they still can't connect to the other decos.

What should I do? Do you think I need more nodes? Is it time to buy replace a few of the old M5s?

The Deco S4 (AC1900) offers higher performance compared to the Deco M5(AC1300). Therefore, 1. Ensure the main controller of the network is using Deco S4. 2. Ensure all units' deco firmware is updated and aligned. Mentioned your guest WiFi has a low performance issue, how about the regular WiFi SSID? Is it working well?

Hi, welcome to the community.

I don't think you need more nodes.

Can I have the hardware or firmware version of the Deco S4? (V3 is AC1900 while V1/V2/V4 are still AC1200)

Have you tried to only plug the 8*Deco M5 units (maybe the 4 wired units first, then the wireless Mesh units)?

Would you run into any issues/errors when re-adding the wireless satellite units via the Deco APP?

Or all 8 units can be added into the network, but later they randomly turn flashing red and show offline on the Deco APP?

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Thank you! All the firmware are updated. The regular Wifi SSID was working well. Except some nodes stop and start working at random times and durations.

@David-TP Thanks for the reply! I did try to plug the M5 units first starting with the wired then then the wireless. Some of the nodes couldn't be added using the Deco app as they  remained flashing red. I actually replaced 3 of the nodes I have with 3 new X50 models (removed 2 M5 nodes and 1 S4 node since I couldn't seem to add them back using the deco app). The new X50 is now my main node. All were working when I replaced the 3 nodes but as you said, yes, some nodes randomly  show offline on the Deco App and randomly turn flashing red.

I am scared to update the firmware now as I feel like it causes the glitches. :(
