Dynamic AI Camera Background Blur for Privacy Compliance
In Sweden, similar to other European countries, privacy laws prohibit security cameras from being pointed at public roads, public spaces, or any areas that are not private property. This often makes it problematic, if not impossible, to legally install a Wi-Fi doorbell at one's front door if it captures public areas. Due to this, I am currently unable to purchase a camera doorbell. In fact, it's generally very difficult to point any of my security cameras without inadvertently breaking the law.
A crucial software-based solution to this issue would be to incorporate a dynamic background blurring feature, ideally powered by AI, akin to those found in video conferencing software like Microsoft Teams. While current "privacy zones" in camera systems are often static and simply block out a fixed area, a dynamic AI-driven blurring function would allow the camera to intelligently identify and keep the person at the doorbell in clear focus while simultaneously blurring out the public background. This would apply even if the person moves within the frame, ensuring that privacy is maintained for public spaces. This AI feature would address the legal requirement of not recording public areas while still allowing the doorbell to fulfill its security function effectively.
