Hello@Admus ,
Welcome to our community.
According to the translation of Google Translate, your question is that you failed to connect the HP DeskJet 2820e to TL-WR940N(in Range extender mode). If there is any discrepancy, please describe it in English.
Have you reset the printer for a new connection?
Please try to connect it to the main router's network or a different network for comparison.

Hello,
Thank you for your fast response and the welcome message!
Yes, that's right, I can't connect my HP DeskJet 2820e printer to my TL-WR940N in range extender mode. I've reset the printer several times as described in the device manual, but unfortunately, to no avail. The password I set was requested, and then a message from the printer had to be acknowledged, but in the last two steps of setup with the HP Smart app, no proper connection is established. I suspect a problem with DNS name resolution. You can't configure a "real" DHCP in range extender mode, and the DHCP service that runs automatically doesn't seem to be transmitting a DNS server. I only have access to my TL-WR940N, where I have options for configuring my devices. The AP I connect to with my TL-WR940N only provides an internet connection.

Hello@Admus ,
Thank you for getting back to me.
AP(Access Point) /RE(Range Extender) mode itself does not process DHCP.
It is recommended that you can modify DNS, you need to adjust the DHCP settings of the main router to ensure that the correct DNS server address is issued. Configure DNS via DHCP of main router.Change it to Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
Alternatively, you can manually configure a static IP and DNS for the printer on the router. If the main router cannot be modified (such as a public network or permission restrictions), you can manually specify the IP and DNS directly in the printer network settings.

Hi@Admus ,
Thank you for getting back to me.
DNS settings and IP allocation must be completed on either the router or the client(HP DeskJet 2820e printer).

Hello@Admus,
In range extender mode, there aren't many settings you can modify.
As I mentioned earlier,'DNS settings and IP allocation must be completed on either the router or the client.'
The router refers to the main router, not the TL-WR940N used as a range extender.

Hello @Joseph-TP
Thanks again for the detailed explanation, it wasn't clear from the first post. As I said, I have no way of configuring anything on this side of the WiFi, this router/AP simply provides me with an internet connection which I share with my TL-WR940N in my private home network. Internet access is not a problem with my hardware, only my printer seems to be having difficulties. I haven't tried changing the printer's IP configuration using the HP Smart App either, as they are very reluctant to communicate with each other. Is there no way to configure my TL-WR940N so that the name resolution for my network comes from my device? Can I actually change the operating mode, e.g. to AP, and configure the device, enter the Google DNS servers, I would like to use telnet and Dynamic DNS, and then switch back to Range Extender mode?

Hi @Admus,
This setting is not recommended. Generally, switching between operating modes resets network parameters, requiring you to reconfigure your network.
In RE/AP mode, DHCP should be disabled, allowing the primary router to centrally manage IP allocation, reducing complexity.

Hi @Joseph-TP
Is it possible to configure my device as a router ie with static routes to the main router/AP so that my device TL-WR940N gets the needed information provided from the main AP and my hardware peripherie gets its information from my device. I want to use more of the features from my device what I can't when it runs in RE mode. I still can't change the IP configuration of my printer because it doesn't save the changed sttings and I am having problem connecting to the hp server for an update or something like that but this is something you can't change too for sure ;-). Range Extender mode is very anoying and there seems to be no way to activate an DHCP server too in that mode. Thanks in advance.
