I have problems to assign IPv6 addresses in my network. My provider is Atomic South Africa (in combination with Openserve) and yes, they provide IPv6 (Google: atomic ipv6 howto).

I connect via PPPoE and I use DHCPv6 to get a prefix from the provider. As you can see on the screenshot this part works. The prefix comes from the provider.

The strange thing is, that the router does not change his WAN or LAN IPv6 address from link local (FE80::) after the prefix is assigned. It also doesn't spread any global unicast IPv6 addresses to the devices in my network.

I've tried every option on the LAN side (ND Proxy, DHCPv6, SLAAC with Stateless DHCP and RDNSS). The behavior is always the same.

Hello @Sebastian1546 ,

Thank you for contacting our community.

Have you confrimed the IPv6 configuration information with your ISP?

Please tell me if your network topology diagram is as follows:

ISP modem—router )))((( client devices

(Note: — stands for wired connection,)))((( stands for wireless connection )

Please click “Advance Settings” and select “Non-Address” option then click save button.

Best Regards.

Hello @Joseph-TP,

thanks for your answer. I have confirmed the IPv6 informations with my ISP. I've also talked to their support. We've already tried the "non-address" option.

The topology is, as you wrote it: Nokia fiber modem — BE400 )))((( clients

As I've switched to "non-address" this morning, I could see a global unicast address for a few minutes. I was surprised because I've tried this option with the ISP support before. In this short time my smartphone also got a global unicast address.

But after that - without doing anything - it went back to link local.

Here is the screenshot:

@Joseph-TP I was contacted by a support engineer. He couldn't fix the problem and took some network dumps. I'm not sure, what's happening now. But I hope he comes up with a solution.

Hi@Sebastian1546,

It looks like the engineer needs more time to analyze this issue. If there is an update, the engineer will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks for your kind understanding.
