Hi all,

I’ve been running a Deco XE75 Pro 3-pack in Access Point mode and I’m consistently seeing disappointing wireless throughput across all my devices, even those connected just a few feet away from the main Deco unit, which is hardwired into the network. Can anyone advise if they have seen something similar to this?

My Setup
Virgin Hub 3.0 in Router mode, providing DHCP

Deco XE75 Pro 3-pack in AP mode

Main Deco in the lounge is hardwired to a TP-Link TL-SG608E switch

One satellite is wired into a separate TP-Link TL-SG608E, and the other is using wireless backhaul

All testing has taken place within 2–3 metres, clear line of sight of the main Deco in the lounge

Testing
I’m using iperf3 on various wireless devices to test against a local server (Intel NUC) connected via Ethernet to the lounge TP-Link TL-SG608E switch, which is also wired to the main Deco. So this is local traffic only, no WAN bottlenecks involved.

Laptop 1 – Intel AX201 Wi-Fi 6

Driver 23.150.0.4 (also tested older versions)

Throughput: 70–90 Mbps

Laptop 2 – Realtek RTL8811AU USB 802.11ac

Throughput: ~70 Mbps

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (Wi-Fi 6)

Throughput: ~127 Mbps

However, when using hard wired Ethernet to the Deco's LAN port my throughput is ~600 Mbps, so backhaul to the NUC is definitely not the bottleneck

I’ve also tested a third laptop and even another USB Wi-Fi dongle, just in case this was NIC-related. All yeilded similarly low results.

What I’ve Tried

Disabled roaming, mesh enhancements, and fast handoff features where possible

Disabled all offload settings on Windows NICs (RSC, RSS, ECN, etc.)

Forced 5GHz-only via network adapter settings

Completed all testing on a network at idle.

Key Results
Wireless performance consistently caps around 80–90 Mbps, even on Wi-Fi 6 clients.

Wired performance dirctly through the Deco port is excellent

I’ve ruled out client NIC issues by testing multiple devices and adapters

I’ve ruled out environmental interference (as much as possible in a big city) by testing directly in front of the Deco with strong signal

Switching to Router mode seems to cause me major issues with existing devices (Harmony Hub, SofaBaton, Sonos), so I’m limited to using AP mode

These Deco units are only a few weeks old, and I was really hoping for a step up in Wi-Fi performance. But right now I’m getting results that don’t feel remotely close to what the hardware should be capable of.

Ive trawled through lots of forums (here and all the other usual suspects) but cant seem to find any issues that match my particular setup.

Happy to provide logs, further testing, or anything else that might shed light on this.

Thanks in advance. G

  @Grindlebeard

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

May I know how much of your internet bandwidth?

I'd like to follow up on your case via email and ask the senior engineer for further assistance.

Please check whether you can receive my email later.

Thanks a lot.

Best regards.

  @Grindlebeard

your gigabit switch is the bottleneck. I dont know why the tplink guy is asking questions but this is your bottleneck. I suggest a 2.5gbs switch to increase your speeds. That is why your seeing 120mbs max that's a gbit. Keep all these multi gbit deco's on a multi gbit switch.

Hi  @David-TP,

Thank you for coming back to me.

I can confirm that my bandwidth is running at just under 275Mbps.

Regards G.

Thanks  @Travis82,

Im not convinced this issue is down to the speed of the switch. I’m not expecting more than 940Mbps....the 675Mbps I’m seeing seems reasonable under normal conditions.

My setup for testing was as follows;

Laptop > Main Deco > TP-TL608E > Intel NUC

When i am connecting to the main Deco wirelessly i see the following;

C:\iperf3>iperf3 -c 192.168.0.59
Connecting to host 192.168.0.59, port 5201
[  5] local 192.168.0.22 port 33028 connected to 192.168.0.59 port 5201
[ ID] Interval           Transfer     Bitrate
[  5]   0.00-1.01   sec  10.8 MBytes  89.4 Mbits/sec
[  5]   1.01-2.01   sec  9.88 MBytes  82.9 Mbits/sec
[  5]   2.01-3.01   sec  9.00 MBytes  75.7 Mbits/sec
[  5]   3.01-4.00   sec  10.4 MBytes  87.1 Mbits/sec
[  5]   4.00-5.01   sec  9.00 MBytes  75.1 Mbits/sec
[  5]   5.01-6.01   sec  9.88 MBytes  83.1 Mbits/sec
[  5]   6.01-7.01   sec  9.25 MBytes  76.9 Mbits/sec
[  5]   7.01-8.01   sec  8.25 MBytes  69.9 Mbits/sec
[  5]   8.01-9.01   sec  8.88 MBytes  73.8 Mbits/sec
[  5]   9.01-10.01  sec  6.12 MBytes  51.5 Mbits/sec

[  5]   0.00-10.01  sec  91.0 MBytes  76.3 Mbits/sec                  receiver

However, when i physically connect to one of the ports on the Main Deco i am getting;

C:\iperf3>iperf3 -c 192.168.0.59
Connecting to host 192.168.0.59, port 5201
[  5] local 192.168.0.30 port 28183 connected to 192.168.0.59 port 5201

[  5]   0.00-1.01   sec  77.8 MBytes   644 Mbits/sec
[  5]   1.01-2.01   sec  86.0 MBytes   720 Mbits/sec
[  5]   2.01-3.00   sec  69.0 MBytes   586 Mbits/sec
[  5]   3.00-4.00   sec  82.1 MBytes   688 Mbits/sec

[  5]   8.01-9.00   sec  79.2 MBytes   673 Mbits/sec
[  5]   9.00-10.01  sec  82.0 MBytes   683 Mbits/sec

[ ID] Interval           Transfer     Bitrate

[  5]   0.00-10.01  sec   806 MBytes   675 Mbits/sec                  receiver

I would expect the wireless connection to be slower, but not by 10x when sitting right in front of the Main Deco. At this stage i would be happy with 300Mbps!

Appreciate any other ideas.

Regards

G
