Why can I not connect to any of the 2.4Ghz, 5GHz & 6GHz bands when I deselect the Smart Connect option and have the three bands enabled?

 

All 3 bands appear in my wi-fi list, but when I select either band, I get a message stating 'Connection Failed', Unable to connect to 'TP-Link (band frequency)'

 

I have entered the correct password, and it makes no difference what 'Security' option I have selected, I have even tried it 'Open' with no security, but still can't connect to any of the wi-fi bands

I also tried enabling a 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz 'Guest' networks, and these appeared in the wifi list, but I am also unable to connect to these.

 

All lights on the front of the router are solid green, except the USB light.

 

The router is set to Wireless Router mode, and the firmware is up to date.

 

Where am I going wrong?

A hard reset can often be helpful in several scenarios. But I am glad to hear that you resolved it at last!

 

Here are some suggestions for your case:

  • If all devices cannot connect to the router's Wi-Fi network:

1) Check the SSID and password, ensuring there are no extra spaces at the beginning or end of the SSID/password.

2) Try a different wireless channel.

3) Restart the router.

 

  • If a specific device cannot connect to the router's Wi-Fi network:

1) Ensure that the device is not mistakenly blocked by a "blocklist."

2) Disable "Smart Connect."

3) Change the encryption method to "WPA2-PSK/WPA-PSK" to improve compatibility with older devices.

Have you tested this with more than one client device?

 

In case you have only tried with one client device yet, then what is the make and model of the client device (in case it's a computer, then make and model of the Wi-Fi card)?

Many thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have tried this on my mobile, which is a OnePlus, model 12, and also on a Samsung Galaxy Tablet. The separate wi-fi bands show up in the wi-fi list, but when I select one of the bands and enter the password I always get the same message- 'Connection Failed, Unable to connect'

UPDATE

 

I ended up doing a factory reset on the router which seems to have fixed the issue.
