Model: TL-PA8010P KIT
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: ?

I have now had 4 of these devices fail with the "no lights" problem - i.e. not even the power light shows when you plug them in and the reset/link button doesn't do anything to change this.

I have quite a few TP-Link devices including older and slower adapters.  I bought the first 2 of these AV1300 adapters as a kit in 2020 and one of the pair failed with the "no lights" problem while still under warranty.  I sent it back and TP-Link replaced it sending me 2 new units.  The second of my original pair then failed so I was able to replace it straight away with the 2nd adapter TP-Link had already sent me.

Today both these new adapters failed - again with the "no lights" problem.  I have no idea why they failed but suspect it may possibly be due to a spike on the power circuit (lightning?).  However, no other devices in my house (e.g. routers, wifi extenders etc.) were affected.  All my older TP-Link adapters were unaffected.

I contacted TP-Link today but was told that because the original AV-1300 units were purchased in 2020 they were out of their warranty period even though the replacement units they had supplied were only 2 years old.

I appreciate this is in line with the warranty conditions but thought others might wish to be aware of my experience.

Hello @Finnkai, thanks for posting in the TP-Link community,

We regret to hear that your product has malfunctioned after a certain period of use, and that you were unable to get a warranty replacement. TP-Link UK offers a warranty period for each product type (2 years, 3 years, or 5 years). They will replace any defective product which shall be under the investigations of TP-Link UK with the same model subject to any device available at the time. For more details, please refer to the Warranty Terms and Conditions on the local website.

Even though the product is out of warranty, it is not recommended to replace the capacitors yourself. Any unauthorized disassembly or modification to the product, including capacitor replacement, poses potential safety risks. Such changes may lead to malfunctions or hazards that could compromise the safety and performance of the device or even cause a fire or irreparable damage to you and your family. Using an incorrect replacement capacitor or soldering with poor technique can lead to a short circuit or overheating. This can cause the component to vent or explode, potentially starting a fire.

Powerline adapters are consumer-grade electronics, and the cost of professional repair may be close to the cost of a new unit. Consider replacing the faulty adapter to ensure your safety and restore your network connection.

For anyone else who may also encounter a similar powerline adapter with no power issue, please also be notified with the above reminder. We strongly recommend contacting our technical support for further advice on whether your device is still under warranty or if you need a new one.

  @Finnkai

Subsequent to my post above, I discovered a video on YouTube which identified the source of the problem - 2 faulty capacitors.  I purchased a pack of replacements for less than £10 and have now successfully repaired 3 of my 4 faulty powerline devices.  It seems that failing capacitors is a pretty common problem on TPLink devices.  Hope this post may help someone else.
