Archer GE800 - WAN speed randomly drop down
Hello,
I have problem with my new router GE800 like other people in this community. WAN speed during day several times goes down to 57Mbit/15Mbit (or 50Mb/9Mb) with enormous latency 60-99. During day it is absolutely random. WAN is connected zo port 3. (Port 1+2 is unstable too.)
My connection speed from internet provider is 100Mbit/100Mbit (normal speed is 87/87 on speedtest.net).
When I disconnect WAN cable and plug it back speed returns back to 87/87.
Problem was from start with previous firmware Archer GE800(EU)_V1_1.3.0 Build 2025080.
This is frustrating.
I try some tips during few days without stable success:
- Factory settings and resetup all
- Upgrade firmware to 1.3.1 Build 20250828 rel.57442(4555)
- Turn ON/OFF regulator RX/TX on Internet WAN
- Set 100Mbit full duplex
- Insert small switch 100/1000Mbit between router and WAN port
- Set maximum fan performance
Connections:
- PC is connected to the router via LAN cable to port with highest priority with QoS (set to 100/100) and parental control.
- NAS Asustor FS6712X-6FCF via 10G LAN port
- Samsung S25 via WiFi 5
Only Wifi 5 is turned ON.
Router Internet connection:
- Dynamic IP
- Primary DNS 1.1.1.1
- Secondary DNS 8.8.8.8
- MTU 1500
- With my own MAC address
- NAT enabled
- Without DoT and DoH
- RX and TX disabled
I think the temperature is high from bottom, but fan run slow or no turns. I hear fan in high speed only in the morning when internet traffic is off.
LAN cable between WAN - switch - GE800 is OK with cat6e. Internet speed is stable with other router Archer C20.

Hello@TomasMen ,
Welcome to our community.
Is the internet plan 100Mbps? If so, may I know why you are using Archer GE800? Because regular WiFi 5 router can meet this speed requirement.
Here are some steps to help troubleshoot the issue:
1. Please use https://www.speedtest.net or the speedtest APP/CLI(https://www.speedtest.net/apps) for testing speed accurately.
2. Please make sure the speed of your ISP/Modem is good by connecting a PC directly into the ISP Modem/Router.
3. When testing with wireless, please connect your phone/laptop to the high speed network (5G/6G) instead of 2.4G. To achieve maximum throughput over wireless, place the phone/Laptop next to the Router.
The following are some tips that might improve the speed of your Archer Router:
Disable QoS, please access http://tplinkwifi.net and go to Advanced >> QoS to disable it.
Disable Parental Control, please go to Advanced >> Parental Control to disable it.
If wireless speed is slower than expected, please go to Advanced >> Wireless Settings to change the 5GHz Wi-Fi channel, you may try different channels to find the best one for your environment.
5) Disable SIP ALG and UPNP: go to Advanced >> NAT Forwarding >> UPNP to disable UPNP; go to Advanced>> Security to disable SIP ALG.

Hello @Joseph-TP
Yes, plan is 100Mbps. I use the Archer GE800 for 10Gb LAN connection to the NAS, parental controls, and in the future for other functions, but that is not necessary.
Connecting to 5G wifi is not important for me now. I mainly use a wired LAN connection between PC - Archer - NAS.
The computer was turned off all day today and right after it was turned on (after 18:00) I turned on speedtest.net on it and checked the speed. The speed was 42/15. Then I disconnected and reconnected the WAN cable and measured the speed again. The speed reached 88/88. I am attaching print screens.
Connection from my provider is OK (tested another router Archer C20)
To tips:
Last week I tried several times with QoS turned off and on, but it had no effect on the WAN speed drop. It still appears randomly.
I need to have parental control turned on.
WIFI connection is not important, I use wired LAN. When the speed drop on WAN is also reflected on WIFI.
I will test UPNP turned off. I did not find the second mentioned SIP ALG function in the settings.
After loading Windows:
After unplug-plug WAN cable:

Thanks for getting back to me.
Please place the router in a dry, well-ventilated area, and ensure it is not covered by any objects. Avoid placing the device directly above or near other electronic devices that are in operation. Please keep it away from heat sources or direct sunlight.
May I confirm the network topology as below:
ISP modem—switch—GE800)))((( clients
(Note: — stands for wired connection,)))((( stands for wireless connection )
When you tested the WAN network speed of the GE800, did you connect your wired computer to one of the 2.5Gbps LAN ports (1-3) on the router? Did you mean that when you mentioned "WAN connected to port 3 (ports 1 and 2 were also unstable)"?
When the speed drops, please connect the wired PC directly to the switch and check if the speed remains stable via the switch.
If so, please remove the switch and connect the router directly to the modem for comparison.
Additionally, please test the link speed (not the actual speed) and send the test results here: How to check the associated/link speed on a wired client.
