Model: Archer VR600
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 0.2.0 0.9.1 v0074.0 Build 170504 Rel.68210n

Hello TP-Link Community,

I own an Archer VR600 v2.1 EU that unfortunately is now in a hard-bricked state after a series of recovery attempts.

I would like to share the situation and ask for guidance:

  • Initially, my device was running on the old firmware (0.2.0 0.9.1 v0074.0 Build 170504 Rel.68210n). With this version, I had an issue where I could not enable or disable the WiFi connection.

  • I also frequently received the error message: “Error code: 9805 – Corresponding case not found.”

  • To resolve this, I attempted to update to the following firmware:
    Archer_VR600V2_0.3.0_0.9.1_up_boot(200226)_2020-02-27_08.58.18.bin

  • Unfortunately, the update failed and left the device in a soft-bricked state.

  • I then tried to recover the router using UART/RTTL serial port recovery with TFTP, which allowed me to flash the firmware image (200226), but afterward the device became completely unresponsive (hard-bricked). Even the power LED no longer lights up, and the serial console no longer shows the bootloader.

At this stage, I understand that the only way forward may be to reflash the router using an SPI programmer (e.g., CH341A with SOIC clip, or TL866). For this, I will need the full flash image dump (including the bootloader / CFE).

My question

Is there an official source for a complete flash dump for the Archer VR600 v2.1 EU?

I would appreciate any assistance to bring it back to life.

Thank you for your help.

From what you describe the router is indeed in a hard-bricked state, if even the power LED is not lighting and there is no serial output then the bootloader is most likely corrupted. TP-Link unfortunately does not provide a full flash dump with bootloader for end users, the firmware files on the website only contain the main firmware partitions without the CFE/U-Boot part. The only way to try recovery at this stage is with an SPI programmer like CH341A or TL866, but for that you would need either to extract a full dump from another working VR600 v2.1 EU unit or find someone who already has one. If you don’t have access to that, the more realistic option would be to contact TP-Link support directly and ask if they can reflash it or replace the unit, because without the bootloader the device cannot start

It is like a tough situation with the Archer VR600. While working on firmware recovery, I also found tools like Spribewin helpful for managing backups and flash files safely.
