Hey,

So I have moved from EE to Vodafone here in the UK on full Fibre, and have updated all the PPPoE settings, which has worked perfectly (I lost internet for a few hours because they decided to change me over at 4am, but the router handled it well).

Vodafone offer native IPv6 support, and so I thought I would enble IPv6 on the router.

I can enable it via the IPv6 LAN, and it then grants me an IPv6 address.. however under the Local / LAN IPv6 settings, there does not seem to be a way to set a local DNS (as you would with IPv4 and I currently have 2 local DNS servers setup to be my hosts for the network.

Am I missing something and have to enable another setting? or is this going to be enabled in the future at all?

Thanks

Hi,

You can enter the global IPv6 address of your local DNS server in the IPv6 menu under IPv6 Internet -> Advanced Settings -> Primary DNS and Secondary DNS (enter the same address twice). These should then get assigned to your local client devices.

Hey thanks for that, I did try that, but it just said invalid format, so assumed it was setup similar to how the ipv4 one is - one lot for the router checking if the connection was working and one for ipv6. I thought ipv6 had a standard format, but what ever I entered there seemed to just say "invalid format"

Cheers

Here in my local network (router is an Archer BE550) all client devices are being assigned a global IPv6 address that starts with a "2".

I can enter the global IPv6 address (not a local-link IPv6 address) of any of my client devices into the two Primary/Secondary DNS fields and it will accept them.

Maybe that is where I was going wrong, I was using the 80 (or was it 8f) starting ones.. so I need the full externally facing ipv6 address. Will grab them and try again tomorrow. Ipv6 is new to me and having all devices have a fully remote available address is a scary prospect, but I guess that is where the router firewall comes in :)

There is already a feature request filed by another user here https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/827952 that asks for the thing you were looking for. But don't expect something like this to be implemented in the firmware anytime soon.
