Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 0.5.0 3.0.0 v6084.0 Build 231018 Rel.42738n

Hello,

  I have a TP-Link EX510 Pro.

It's setup as Access Point mode.

I do have an OPNSense/pfSense server that handles the firewall and DHCP server, so I turned off DHCP from EX510.

First question: does EX510 Pro supports VLAN tagging in any known way? In AP Mode or Router Mode? Or even with Multi-SSID with DHCP enabled?

Second question: When I try to isolate guest / multi-ssid network disabling "Allow guests to see each other", I still can still connect to another computers in my network (even if they are connected to my main SSID).

There are any fw update or solution for this? Even if I need to switch to Router Mode?

I know that in "Advanced Settings" I have "AP Isolation", but this will make my main SSID (and main computer) not be able to check other machines.

Thanks in advance!

As far as we know, the EX510 Pro doesn’t currently support VLAN tagging in AP Mode. VLAN functionality is only available on some router models (like the higher-end Archer BE/AX series) that have explicit VLAN options in their web interface. In Router Mode, the EX510 also doesn’t expose VLAN settings - so there’s no supported way to tag VLANs, even when using multiple SSIDs. Regarding guest isolation - disabling “Allow guests to see each other” only prevents communication between devices connected to the same guest SSID, but it doesn’t isolate them from the main SSID when the device is running in AP Mode. In AP Mode, traffic separation depends on your upstream router or firewall (in your case, pfSense/OPNSense). For proper guest isolation, VLANs or separate interfaces need to be configured on your firewall, not just on the EX510. You can try enabling “AP Isolation” to see if it fits your setup, but as you said, it will isolate all clients on that SSID, including your main ones, so it’s more of a workaround. Also worth noting - the EX510 Pro is an ISP-customized router, so some advanced options like VLAN tagging or full guest network isolation might be limited or disabled depending on your provider’s firmware

In general TP-Link home grade routers don't support VLANs.

For your setup is more suitable to have a dedicated home APs like these here or APs from Omada business series.

They support both Multi-SSIDs and VLANs.

I do know how to setup VLAN with OPNSense and others distros and hw.

But I think it's not possible with this EX510 Pro at all.

This is a standalone purchase for EX510 Pro, not by ISP...

Too bad they don't have any firmware upgrade or any support for another firmware to eanble VLAN tagging.

When I setup it as "Router Mode" I can put the Internet "in" with VLAN.

I know other products with Omada support has Multi-SSID and you can type the VLAN you want.
