Model: Archer AX1800
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.1.9 Build 20230829 rel.78478(4555)

I am going to buy a New TP-Link AX73 to get better coverage in my house as in SA I have a lot of metal and about 10M away signal disappears somewhat due to buildings and metal (hope that makes sense). I want to use the existing AX1800 as an Access Point. I know you have to change the operation mode to access point and reboot. After this I want to make sure I have this right - On the main router I find out what the IP address is of the AX1800 then login accordingly and set up the WIFI and set up the SSID's same as the main AX73 (which I am going to purchase).

1) Would it be better to set up the AX1800 with a static IP address or leave it on DHCP?

2) What I can see and read I am supposed to use the same SSID as et up on the new device so the connection is seemless. as stated above

3) The AX 1800 will be set up in my second house about 25M away direct line of sight, hope this will be Okay.

Am I missing anything in regards to set up or changes to be made.

Using AI help and settting up an info sheet for myself this is what I wrote: -

How to set up a TP-Link AX1800 router as an access point using only the WIFI connection

  1. Connect a computer to the TP-Link router you want to configure, preferably with an Ethernet cable, and power on the router.
  2. Open a web browser and go to either http://tplinkwifi.net or the router's default IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1). My Network is 172.16.X.X
  3. Log in using the router's admin credentials.
  4. Navigate to Advanced > System > Operation Mode.

  1. Select Access Point from the options and click Save.
  2. The router will reboot. Wait for it to fully restart.

Wireless and network configuration

  1. After the router restarts, log back into its web interface. The IP address may have changed. If you can't find it, log in to your main router and check its DHCP client list for the new IP address assigned to the access point router. Preferably change the router to a static IP address e.g. 172.16.X.X
  2. Go to Advanced > Quick Setup.
  3. For the wireless settings, change the new router's Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password to match the SSID and password of your main router. This allows devices to automatically connect to the strongest signal.
  4. Complete the quick setup and save the changes.

(Optional) Once complete, you can disconnect the computer from the TP-Link router and connect to the Wi-Fi network. Your device should automatically connect to the access point based on signal strength

Hello@MartiNGSQ ,

Welcome to our community.

Please confirm that you set the router to be Access Point correctly, referring to How to configure the TP-Link wireless router as Access Point.

For your need, if you want to expand the network via wired connection and hope the new router can use the same SSID as the AX73.

I think you can consider creating an EasyMesh network. Please check the firmware and hardware version of your routers, and refer to EasyMesh Routers Support Building a EasyMesh Network via Ethernet Backhaul NOW .
