Hello all,

First time I'm using this forum, which usually means there's something wrong. ;-)

Anyway, we have a bungalow house with 5 Deco M5 WiFi points all across the house from the separated garage until the living room. It's quite a large house but the coverage of the Deco's is very well. We've been having some issues with the Deco M5 over the last few months. Sometimes the internet doesn't connect, iPhones don't connect and when it's connected it's very unstable and slow. Now, I've been doing some troubleshooting and now I've changed the mode from Router to Access point. First of all, I expected the Deco's to copy the main router's WiFi but they kept the TP-Link seperated WiFi, which is fine to me, as that means I don't have to reconnect all devices across the house. Secondly, and that is something I really don't understand, the internet seems much quicker and I can't figure out why, or what was the problem in the first place. Any ideas? I do like the fact that there's extra protection in Router mode, especially with a small one of us running around here. Would that be the issue perhaps?

Welcome to the community.

When changing Deco into AP mode from router mode, it sorts of refreshes the CPU and Memory usage, which in certain ways clears some redundant processes and speeds up the network sessions. Moreover, AP mode removed double NAT, which might affect some gaming and streaming services. When Deco is in AP mode. It no longer deals with the DHCP/DNS request. If the ISP router is more powerful, it would also improve the network connection.

Furthermore, the 1.9.1 on Deco M5 has a new and updated Parental Control and Security services compared with older versions. There has been feedback regarding this version, specifically regarding its accuracy in real-time protection blocking. If the reported issues started just after the firmware upgrade, it might also be related, and you can try to disable the Real-Time protection and wait for the new firmware release.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.
