Hi, what is the maximum number of wireless clients supported by a TL-WPA4220 adapter?

I am trying to add Tapo smart bulbs to the adapter but it seems to only recognise up to 12 clients and any bulbs added after that can't connect. If I cut the power to already added bulbs, add the new bulbs and reconnect the power to the previous bulbs they then show as offline.

Hello @Robiko ,

Welcome to our community.

Are all devices successfully added now? If the powerline can't add any more devices after adding 12, it means that the powerline unit can currently only support approximately 12 wireless devices in your network.

We suggest you consider connecting other clients to the main router or adding more extenders to expand the network.

Best Regards.

Re:Max number of wireless clients supported by TL-WPA4220?
Yesterday

@Joseph-TP Hi Joseph, thanks for your reply, no, I couldn't add anymore devices to TL-WPA4220 which I find a bit disappointing, had I known that TL-WPA4220 only had a 12 device limit I would have considered a different alternative, perhaps this should be mentioned somewhere in the documentation?

Anyway, I was able to add a powerline adapter from one of your competitors to the TP powerline network, which allowed me to connect all the devices through that one adapter instead of having multiple TL-WPA4220 adapters in the same room.

Regards

Rob

Hello @Robiko ,

I understand your feelings and hope to offer some helpful advice.

I'm still consulting and confirming whether 12 devices is the theoretical maximum number of connections. However, even if a device has a theoretical maximum number of connections, this figure is generally based on ideal testing conditions. In real-world applications, it's usually challenging to achieve this number because environments often introduce many interference factors, such as wireless attenuation and poor powerline performance.

If your network is currently functioning normally, please continue with this setting.

Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Best Regards.
